Great location
Posted Jan 7, 2013
My favorite thing about this hotel is the location. You can see Nordstrom out your window. The hotel is a little tired but they do a good job trying to keep it clean. The bathroom's are super tiny but clean. I would definitely stay here again. No problems at all.

Newport Marriott is worth the stay
Posted Jan 29, 2013
Great experience. The room was very clean, the weather was perfect. The amenities were as you would expect, and the service for the most part, was excellent. Outside of some valet issues, I thought this was a top notch hotel experience.

Party Hotel
Posted Jan 23, 2013
Pros: Location, condition
Cons: Party atmosphere
Location: Right across the street from Fashion Island shopping
Beautiful hotel and located in a great area. However this is not a hotel for families with small children. The night we stayed, there was a full on dance party in the Rose Garden outside our room. The music started around 7 and went on until 10pm. The music was VERY loud to the point I could not hear the TV in my room. I called the front desk, but they didn't seem interested in quieting down the party. I took forever to get the kids to fall asleep with the pounding music going on outside.

Expedia travelers receive the "less than rooms"
Posted Jan 29, 2013
The hotel and staff were great. The issue is the room they assign to an Expedia traveler is the "less than room". I work for the hotel industry and I know this practice occurs with some chains. However, I did not expect this from the Newport Beach Marriott and Spa. The room the front desk initially assigned me was next to a the very loud ice machine, no view, room was dirty and did not the usual soaps, shampoos etc. In all, the room was not ready to be rented. I called the Front Desk Manager and explained my issue. He immediately moved me to another room that was clean and in a better location. My friend checked in a couple of hours after me. She did not have a reservation but the hotel had plenty of rooms and accommodated her. She was in a different tower and had a much nicer room. The rate she paid was $30 more than the Expedia rate I booked months prior.

Disneyland Hotel Stay
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Pros: Pretty foyer.
Cons: Had to ask for towel and soap, twice.
Location: Upper class, expensive mall across the road.
We were looking for a hotel close to Disneyland. This was a 25 minute drive and not family oriented. This hotel is in a very upper class area and met for conferences. To big, to impersonal, and missing the comfort level. It was clean and elegant, but I really wanted two queens and a roll away or a couch. They have you pay extra for oceanview, do not bother it is usually foggy and to far away to care.

disappointing stay at Marriott Newport Beach
Posted Jan 7, 2013
Pros: Staff was great, especially Rose the concierge.
We were disappointed with the hotel, rooms need renovation. Wall paper was dated, furniture old and no direct access to main lobby, had to go through a Maze to get to the lobby and restaurant. Our first day the main pool and bar area was closed because it was reserved for a wedding. There was another pool but it was small and crowded since it was the only one available. Next morning the breakfast buffet was not available, I was really disappointed since it was included in room price. We were provided with breakfast from the regular menu but it is not the same as their usual breakfast buffet. Reason given for not having the breakfast buffet is that they were serving easter brunch later that morning. However the wedding party had a buffet served in one of their private rooms. Another disappointment was the view. We paid premium for ocean view but the ocean was so far away, you would have needed binoculars to see it.

Great place for a weekend getaway
Posted Jan 26, 2013
Pros: The friendliness of the staff
Cons: The lay-out
Location: Great location within walking distance to many restaurants, stores & movie theaters
This is definitely an older Marriott & the lay-out makes it necessary to walk through areas crowed with conference goers to reach some of the rooms. However, the staff MORE than makes up for this. Everyone from the front desk to the maintenance man who helped me find the gym were great. We had a rate that included breakfast and found the buffet with the made-to-order omelettes delicious. Even had a juicer available with all kinds of fruits & veggies. The location right across the street from Fashion Island is also a great plus.
