No view but large rooms and a great roof terrace. Couldn't be closer to the sights and sounds of the old baroque town of Ortygia. Some noise from the restaurant below but it does stop at a reasonable time. Fantastic breakfast and friendly helpful owners.

Super service from the friendly, helpful, staff throughout our 5 night stay . Clean modern facilities and excellent cold buffet breakfast included ( cold meats and cheeses , pastries and bread , cereal, fresh fruit , coffee, tea and juice ) .
Perfect central location on Ortigia island for all attractions in Syracuse . Walls between rooms quite thin and internal noise does travel - but not unduly disturbing ( we had a quiet back of hotel 1st floor room looking onto a courtyard ). All in all would recommend as good value for its 3 star rating.

Wonderful B&B perfectly located on Ortygia (Siracusa). The B&B is in a beautiful old building right on the Piazza Archimedes, though our room was protected from any noise on the piazza by facing a quiet side street. The host was welcoming and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and itinerary. The room was well air-conditioned and comfortable. Breakfast was good and served in a cheerful, sunny room overlooking the Piazza.

All the positive comments that others have made are true. This was one of the best hotels - it is a hotel rather than a B&B - that we have ever stayed in. The location was superb: central, of historic interest, with a lot of life in the evening. The hotel fully deserves its high rating
If we were to return to Ortigia we would be very disappointed if we could not get a room here.

Travelled to the hotel by hire car and it is a bit daunting driving down the narrow streets of Ortygia and worrying about the car restrictions however, once we found the hotel the staff were great offering to park the car at a cost of 10 euros per night. Wandering around the island was a treat with numerous cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from and even if you got lost it didn't really matter as sooner or later you will come out onto one of the main streets. The main square with the Duomo is just around the corner from the hotel and although during the day had many tourist groups arriving, at night the local people are in abundance and there is a great atmosphere. Historic buildings, views out to sea friendly locals this is a great destination.

Great hotel, right by the sea. Staff were friendly and helpful, except that they forgot to order a taxi from the airport - but I probably should have phoned the day before to remind them. The room was very clean and spacious and worth the 15 euros extra for the sea view. Breakfast was delicious. For those who can't walk far, it was a 20 min walk to busses.

We found the Grand Hotel Ortigia an ideal choice for exploring Siracusa. It is on the waterfront in Ortigia and within easy walking distance of all the many sights the island has to offer, as well as its shops and restaurants. The archaeological zone in central Siracusa with its magnificent Greek theatre and other sights took us a walk of roughly half an hour.
Our room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel staff was consistently pleasant and helpful. We ate well in the dining room both early in the morning and late at night.
We would most certainly go back.

"Distinctive character & style in glorious setting"
Ortigia, the island town and most ancient part of Syracuse, is so achingly beautiful we saw models having a photoshoot in the street. The character of the town reflects its rich history, and the hotel captures the feel of this special place wonderfully.
The rooms and communal areas are decked in polished marble and mosaics with a flavour of Italy, Greece and African influences; the balcony has a view over the Mediterranean bay (and the area surrounding the Fountain of Aretusa - ask the locals) and the roof level bar and breakfast room offers stunning views across the medieval rooftops out to sea and mainland too. Breakfast was, by the way, as good as any we had in Sicily.
Our room was large and well equipped, and the balcony provided some lovely twighlight evenings accompanied by birdsong and fishing boats calmly drifting across the bay. A far cry from the busy streets of Catania or bustling cafes of Taormina.
The spa and pool was pleasant and relaxing but if you're an English couple with less experience of these matters than our European cousins, don't expect a massage treatment to be as medical and mechanical as we're used to - it's a little more soft and exposed!

"Old world charm in the heart of Ortigia,Syracuse"
This hotel is a great place to stay tucked away down the ancient streets of Syracuse. We were taken here directly by prearranged pick up from Catania airport via Traveleze . A must when arriving is to ensure that the taxi drops you off at the Blue Bar at the end of Via G.B. Alagona (see address)with Via Nizza. Not to be confused with the Alla Giudecca B&B in the street of that name. We loved this place, a couple of streets away is a great store with lots of local supplies. Like all Italian towns, Syracuse is quiet between 2 and 4.30 when the day is at its hottest but each room has a small kitchenette and so we were able to stay in some lunchtimes/afternoons and chill out on our balcony. We had loads of space for the three of us. The hotel has some ancient ceremonial baths 18 meters underground which is open for the public to see by guided tour on the hour between 11 and 6. It only lasts about 10 minutes but the receptionist does it. So if you do turn up while they are showing people around it is well worth waiting. I would stay here again. The staff were all helpful and friendly . Even when we ended up arriving really late because of the flight and the taxi error we were able to get some help. There is a small door bell on the RHS of the gate(access only by key in the evenings)and the owner let us in . I would recommend this to anyone

Located on the quieter side of Ortigia within Syracuse, this is a gem of a hidden hotel. Great service, great rooms, and great interior. Some of the sea view rooms also look out over the sunrise on the sea in the middle of summer. Wonderful.

My room overlooked the square, so was a little noisy but it was right in the middle of Siricusa and an excellent location. I parked the car about 5-10 mins away and could have could the circular bus to/from it, but chose to walk. Their English was better than my Sicilian/Italian!
