Smelly and noisetPosted Sep 7, 2013
Pros: Friendly staff.
Location: Close to sleazy noisy nightclubs
The smell of smoke was overwhelming. Despite the fact that I stayed is non smoking room the smoke from the other parts of the establishment easily passed in my room. The smell it he bathroom was nauseating. The location was quite a sleazy areaa also. Overall terrible.

Excellent location!Posted Jun 12, 2013
Pros: It's a good Japanese experience in an excellent location.
Cons: Bathroom is old.
Location: The location is right on the canal.
The location of the hotel is right at the canal. I requested a room with a view of the canal (which we got - bonus!). The room was clean and spacious. Bathroom however needs to be updated. Staff were friendly - helped us with our trip from Osaka to Tokyo.

Good B moviePosted Apr 27, 2013
Pros: Location and room
Location: In food heaven and walkable
Like a 70's B movie ryokan, staff very friendly and kind, gave us info for rest of trip without us even asking. Good location and view fun.

Felt very welcomed every dayPosted Mar 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
I stayed here for 4 nights. It was one of my favourite places to stay through out Japan. The staff are incredibly friendly and it was always nice being greeted by them when we came back from dinner. The location is very close to the subway station and we were never hungry as we were so close to Dotombori and went out every night for dinner. Our beds were always made by the time we got back and the place was very clean. There was always hot water in a thermos in our room ready for us to make hot tea and relax looking out the window. There was also ice water as well in our rooms. The only negative point is that the heater is very loud. If you turn the heater off, then you hear the grinding sound of the clock. This may be a problem for light sleepers. When we were leaving, the staff also had prepared travel details for us about the Shinkansen to get to Tokyo. It was very thoughtful and we really appreciated the information. I will definitely stay here again if I am back in Osaka.

top valuePosted Nov 7, 2012
Pros: The staff, especially the guy at the front desk
Location: Very central, with views over the river
Cheap, quiet - yet as central as can be, and above-and-beyond helpful. Room was cleaned twice a day (!)

Kaneyoshi Ryokan - a genuine Japanses experiencePosted Oct 11, 2011 on Hotels.com
We enjoyed a surprisingly large and very reasonably priced room overlooking the canal and it's new and stylish walking paths. Staff spoke good English and were extremely friendly and helpful, giving us a useful package of info on arrival, plus discounts to restaurants (which we used). Later they and even produced a PC printout of the best 3 options for us to catch trains to the airport the next day! Tea was provided free at any time of the day or evening. The hotel is very well positioned in terms of subways and JR lines to easily get to all of Osaka's main tourist attractions. It's not the Ritz and there's an element of fading charm, but for those wanting a genuine Japanese hotel experience we would unreservedly recommend the Kaneyoshi Ryokan.
