“Very convinient with helpful clerks”

The location of the hotel is excellent. It is very close to the Shin Osaka Station, where you can easily go anywhere in Japan. The front desk ladies are very nice and helpful.

“Not worth the money - therre are better budget hotels for this price”

I live in the Kansai area and stayed here with family during their visit. I booked through Expedia because the hotel was a good deal & I was impressed by the reviews. However, we were shocked when we actually walked into the hotel. It's extremely dated, they have one escalator up to the lobby (the staff actually has to run out and change the direction of the escalator for you to bring your bags up and down), and the hotel looks nothing like the photos on the website. The reception desk staff are friendly enough, but this should be par for the course service at any respectable hotel in Japan. The breakfast buffet is also not very good; the Japanese offerings in the buffet were below what is standard when breakfasts are provided in the cost of the room. The rooms were also so old that the labels had worn off the switches, the floor is wood and not carpet, they bed sunk in the middle, and we had no hot water for one night. We tried politely asking (in Japanese) for a different room; the staff were very sweet and apologetic, but we were told that all the rooms are in the same condition. In short, it may be cheap, but Osaka is awash in hotels, and there are other options for accommodations with more comfortable rooms in convenient locations for similar prices.

Area recommendations
The Umeda (around JR Osaka Station or Osaka subway Umeda stations) and Namba areas are good bases for shopping, sightseeing, and travel to other points in the Kansai area.

“Great hotel for the price”

We really enjoyed our stay at the New Osaka Hotel. It is literally right next to the Shin-Osaka station, which made getting around Osaka and the surrounding region very easy. The rooms were small compared to Western style rooms, but clean and comfortable. Our major complaint was that the bed was small and the comforter provided for the bed was not nearly big enough to cover two people. I would highly recommend the New Osaka hotel for anyone traveling to Osaka on a budget.

“Great Rail Connections in Osaka”

I spent 9 nights at the hotel visiting my son who was studying abroad at Osaka University. The location was ideal within a few minutes of the Shin-Osaka Terminal. There is subway and rail connections to every part of the Kansai region and Shinkansen to the north and south. The hotel was very comfortable, very clean. Yes rooms are small, but everything in Japan is smaller. Bed was great and room was very quiet. A great price through Expedia. If you are looking for close by places to walk to, there is not that much in the immediate area, but if you want to connections in Osaka, and day trips to Kobe, Kyoto, Nara, Nagoya it worked great!

“Convenient Location, Close to JR & Subway.”

The New Osaka is just a couple blocks away from the JR and Subway station. It's a great location to see the main sights in Osaka or to visit Kyoto. The station also has a ton of great restaurants open pretty late. The bar in the hotel has pretty good food as well. We were given a free drink voucher when we checked in too. The rooms are a bit dated, but they have everything you need at a good rate. The hotel is not scary, it's actually much nicer than I expected for the price we paid.

“Worth the convenience.”

The hotel is conveniently located in-between two subway stations and a major JR train terminal. The hotel staff was very helpful with advice on how to get to some sight-seeing places. The only thing I can complain is the mattress being stiff. However, all of the good out-weigh the bad. The all-you-can eat buffet was an excellent way to start the day, too. If you're going to stay in Osaka for a few nights and want a convenient place, I highly recommend the New Osaka Hotel.

“Not impressed”

This hotel has a good location, if you take the JR lines. The hotelstaff is very friendly. Rooms are small, and bathroom is very smelly and dirty.

“A great value and a Great place”

This hote was an older hotel but very clean and nice. It is only about a 5 minute walk to the subway station and the JR Japan Rail lines. Very convienient. The rooms were small but comfortable. Air conditioning was great, came with tooth brushes, razors, soap, and shampoo. The towels were big and soft. It had a refrigerator and TV. There were NO English channels on the TV but I wasn't there to watch TV. The only negative was that the hotel has no free Wifi or Wifi at all. You must bring your notebook and connect it to the phone line to access the internet. Also, you will NOT find free wifi anywhere around the hotel or anywhere in Osaka. You have to have a password to access any wifi signal you may fond on your iphone. Please remember that. The breakfast is delicious with a western and asian buffet and great coffee. The staff is warm and friendly. They do offer a message and will cost you about 4500 yen. They will come to your room for that. No tipping is required. Have a great trip. Enjoy Osaka and Japan.

Area recommendations
I would recommend Shinsaibashi in Osaka if you are looking for a place to do shopping. Many coffee shops surround this area and very close to the subway for easy access. Also, Kobe is nice for seeing the port area where the boats are and the city has a nice shopping center as well. Umeda is nice as well for shopping and nightlife. They also have a Hard Rock Cafe. Enjoy

“Great location, great price, will come again.”

The hotel is right next to the JR Shin-Osaka Station, only one station away from the main Osaka Station. It took less than 10 minutes to walk from the station to the hotel. We chose this hotel based on the reviews submitted by other travelers. Everything was exactly as what they have commented. The hotel is kind of old and the semi-double room is very small. However, we didn't spend much time in our rooms, so it didn't matter. I couldn't have found a better hotel for my trip for such a good price.

Area recommendations
The area around the JR Osaka Station is a great location to explore on foot. We enjoyed walking round the big department stores near the train station. The Food Floors in the basement of those stores is like heaven. You can choose all kind of food and some vendors also offer samples. We kept going back there every evening. However, they all close at 8pm, so if you go there after 7pm, they also offer discount price for all the cooked food, sushi combos or sashimi combos.
Getting around
We visited Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Hiroshima and Miyajima during our stay in Osaka. With a 7-day JR Pass, it's a good deal visiting all the cities around. We also used our JR Pass to travel around Osaka.
Must see
There are so many places to see around Osaka. If you have limited time, at least visit Nara and Kyoto. Although Himeji Castle is a great place to visit, it's under renovation with a scaffold over it, so we had to skip that visit. If you plan to visit Hiroshima, you can still see the Himeji Castle in a distance when the train passes by Himeji Station.
Dining
We were on the go most of the time. Although there was not much around the hotel and the train station, there were a lot inside the JR Shin-Osaka Station. There were enough bakeries, convenient stores on your way to your train track that you can grab something to eat even early in the morning. If you have a little more time, there are also good eateries in the train station.

“Great deal, great location and great hotel”

Excellent hotel quality for price range. Location walking distance from JR train station. Great location starting point to other areas of Japan like Kyoto, Hiroshima, Mt. Fuji. Go for the breakfast with room if you can, very tasty and good deal.
