No Air Conditioning in Oslo!

Posted Aug 1, 2014
Pros: The rooms were spacious and the wi-fi was free. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: They could install airconditioning and provide basic cutlery in the kitchens.
Location: It is not central but is close to the subway (2 stops from the city center). It is on the bus route, but this takes time. Taxis are very expensive.
My family and I spent 3 nights at this hotel at the end of July. Our rooms, or rather, apartments were spacious and clean. The bathrooms were clean and well-equipped and one even had a combination washing machine - tumble dryer. The washing machine was a big plus, but the dryer function was much less successful. Nevertheless, this was a great feature. Each bedroom in the 2 bedroom apartments had a flatscreen TV and a DVD and a balcony. The kitchen had a kettle and tea/coffee-making facilities, but no cutlery. This you can rent from the front desk. We didn't use the kitchen, so this wasn't a problem for us. However, there is no air-conditioning in the hotel (and almost none in Oslo as a whole) as the climate usually doesn't call for it. We happened to be there during a heatwave, and the rooms were unbearably hot until the hotel supplied us with fans. The hotel is not that central, but is 2 stops away from the city center if you take the subway from the nearby subway station. It is also on the bus route, but that takes much longer. I recommend the subway as it is reasonably priced and taxis are horrendously expensive. The hotel offers meals and a reasonable breakfast, especially if you compare the price to the average breakfasts from the coffee shops in the area. There is free wi-fi.

Hot and uncooperative

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: Restaurant was well run by a hard working person.
Cons: Already mentioned
Location: It was in a community mostly Eastern... The smells were wonderful. Women in traditional muslim garb and men in indian silks wandered about.
All rooms face the sun... All day... This is probably wonderful in the Norwegian winter, but in summer, the room was brutally hot with no AC. Staff was good... unless something didn't go perfectly... Then they were abrasive and fearful. It's as if a mistake was dealt rather harshly by management so their first effort is to deny there was a mistake. I had construction banging and drilling in the room next door at noon. I wander the city early and late to take advantage of the natural lighting... Noon was when I nap... I tried to explain this to the workers (who's English was a bit better than they admitted) but they did not cease. I asked if there was a supervisor and then their English suddenly improved and they were genuinely worried. Same thing happened when a maid came to tidy my room at noon... I thanked her and said my room was fine and I would rather sleep than have it tidied... She appeared worried and I had to leave to let her clean or she would have had a breakdown... This is not a nice place.

Nice, quiet hotel

Posted Jul 4, 2014
Just a few miles from central Oslo. Super close to a Metro station which gets you to Oslo Central Station in two stops. There's also a grocery store, ATM, and 7-11 nearby. This room felt like I stepped into an IKEA catalog; very European. The room seemed recently renovated. There's no A/C, but considering Norway doesn't experience too many hot days, I'm sure it's not a major concern for them. They do provide a fan. Bathroom is nice. I had a fridge and microwave, which was really nice if you're trying to save on food (expensive!) Staff is friendly and everyone I talked to spoke English. My stay was pleasant and I would definitely stay there again. I would have liked a few more outlets.....like closer to the bed and/or mirror. There really was only one that was not being used by other things.

Nice room, fantastic location

Pros: Location. It is very easy to access to Downtown Oslo from here. Rooms have also a good size
Cons: Everything very good.
Location: A few blocks away from Munch Museet, and steps away from Toyen Metro Station (just 2 stations away from Oslo Central Station). Convenient and quiet.
Very good hotel, just steps away from Toyen Metro Station. Very nice and clean, staff very polite.

Good value four star hotel.

Posted Apr 22, 2014
Pros: I liked the clean room and comfortable bed.
Cons: The reception area is quite small. Also if there are public transport problems then customers should be notified of the inconvenience.
Location: There is not much to do in the vicinity during the holidays and no good restaurants nearby. It is necessary to go to the city center.
The room had everything required for a short stay. Comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom with good shower. It has a kettle, fridge and microwave which can be useful if you do not want to eat every meal out. The staff are very polite. The only drawback was its location when the underground station is closed as it is not in the city center. It costs over £25 for a 2km journey by taxi!

Dear Lisa, Greetings from Best Western Kampen Hotell !! First of all thanks for taking time from your busy schedule to mention valueable comments. We here at Best Western Kampen try to make sure that every guest should have comfortable stay with us and good to hear that you had the same experience. Oslo being one of the most expensive city in world, transportation cost is very high so its prefer to use metro rather than taxi. I will make sure that your comments will be discussed in daily meeting which will also help in motivating our staff. Nice enough for a weekend away

Posted Mar 3, 2014
Easy to get to from centre of town and then onwards to surrounding area. Room was basic but very comfy beds and great shower for a hotel. Breakfast in the hotel wasn't great. It's oslo so expensive compared to similar hotels in other cities.
