Nice hotel in quiet area but check your booking

Posted Apr 30, 2015
Pros: Nice vibe, good decor, nice food, friendly staff, clean
Cons: Booking system and management around that.
Location: No distance from Oslo. Nice and quite, away from the bustle. Everything is v close and the buses/ tram stop is v near.
This is a v nice hotel in a lovely quiet area of Oslo. It is a short walk from the centre. The hotel itself has a boutique feel, the staff are nice and helpful and the food good. The breakfasts were nice, the room in which breakfast was held was quite small, but manageable. The rooms are nice, clean and everything is of a nice standard. there are no kettles in the bedrooms, you have to get that from downstairs. I would sta We had a slightly rough time when we arrived though. There was a mess up with our booking ( the hotel's error) and we arrived at midnight to be told that there was no room for us. The hotel in their defence put us up in an apartment near by for the first night, but this was under construction and we had difficulty finding it after our journey and in the dark. The room was also a double room, and we needed a twin room. These things happen and the hotel put us in a decent twin room for the next two nights but it soured the experience somewhat and I don't think the excuse they gave was quite fair which was to say that ' sometimes when people book online two people can book at once'. I think things surely have moved on enough so that this doesn't happen, and if that was the case, then more hotels would have this issue. Suggest that the hotel really tightens up on this. If it had been a young family, or an elderly couple, or actually someone on their own, this would have been even more unsettling after a flight and commute from Rygge airport ( hour away).

Hôtel bien situé et calme

Calme, au milieu du quartier des ambassades, mais à 10 minutes à pied du centre-ville. Tram à 2 minutes pour aller à la gare (ligne 19). Accès WIFI gratuit.

Viking Break

Posted Apr 13, 2015
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Shelf in bathroom and a bathmat
Location: Quiet, out-of-town location but a walk or short tram ride took you to the heart of the city. Visiting the Viking Ship Museum is a must!
Brilliant hotel; absolutely fantastic breakfast; helpful staff

Modernes Hotel in der Nähe vom Schlosspark.

Posted Mar 22, 2015

Nice looking, well situated with a few annoyances

Posted Mar 13, 2015
Pros: Clean, comfortable, if tiny, beds, great shower.
Cons: Sockets near the beds, black out blinds, water in the minibar - not just champagne, warmer welcome.
Arrival late in the evening to a cordial if cool reception. I took possession of my room key, went up to the fourth floor and opened my door to find someone in my bed. (no this is not a modern retelling of Goldilocks). The poor lady jumped out of her skin. I made my apologies and reversed rapidly from the room and back down to reception to get a key to an unoccupied room. The room I got was a loft room, clean modern and quiet with Velux windows and a nice view. However, given the price, there are a few annoyances. Super slim single beds and a head board that is attached to the wall. Unfortunately the bed wanted to slide away from the wall any time pressure was put on the pillow touching the headboard and the pillow ultimately ended up on the floor. I use my mobile phone as an alarm like most guests I imagine. So it was irritating to find the only power socket on the other side of the room which means jumping out of bed in the AM to silence the alarm. Finally, whilst the Velux windows had black-out blinds, underneath each one was a translucent panel which allowed light in from the outside. These panels could not be blacked out and in the morning the room was too bright to sleep.
