Southwest of Bruges, Ostend was a submarine base during World War I. Today, the seaside resort city is a popular spot for windsurfing and kite surfing. It is also a major commercial and fishing port. The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul was built in the Neo-Gothic style with gargoyles and stained glass details. A ferry connects Ostend to England.
