“Betsey Dempsey”

It was fine. Certainly better than staying at most Holiday Inns or the like. The hotel was just across the river from Ottawa, so it was very convenient and easy to find.

Must see
The Museum of Civilization is a MUST see! Not only is it great for adults, but fabulous for kids, too. Probably the best Children's museum I've been to. The War Museum is great too, but a little heavy for young kids. Also worth seeing is the Royal Canadian Mint.

“poor customer service”

Check-in was great although it gave us a false sense that all our stay would be care-free. Upon our arrival we were given some friendly and great advice on attending an event in Ottawa. We went and enjoyed our day, upon return (in the early am) we discovered that the toilet would not flush completely (on the verge of overflowing) and the pull out sofa would not function properly. We called down to the front desk & housekeeping using the appropriate "buttons" on the phone; no one answered, so I took a walk down. The young gentleman was very apologetic and explained that the was a note on file regarding a problem w/ the pull-out sofa (nothing was said to us at check-in) and no one was available for attending to the toilet. So, I asked for a plunger - he brought one to the room a short time later, and I took care of the problem. Upon check -out I mentioned the problems - the clerk agreed that the problem w/ the sofa pull-out was noted in the computer. No note was left concerning the toilet. All that was said was "it was billed through Expedia, you're all set: NO acknowledgment of the problems what so ever - I pressed the issue, he then wrote it down on a piece of paper (which seemed like it was just for show). Not even a "sorry for the inconvenience". Then we get home to find a charge for incidentals - which there were zero, call the hotel and they say it will be refunded. Stayed a lot of places - never had "incidental" charged then refunded.

“Here nor There”

The exterior and lobby of the hotel gave a very nice first impression, but a closer inspection I noticed big gobs of glue on the the walls of the lobby and hallways where sign had once been mounted. I found cob webs in the room. And the carpet was filthy. Even with a discounted, off season rate, I have stayed in cleaner rooms that were less expensive. Very courtious staff, and housekeeping was very acomodating. 7.5 / 10 overall.

Area recommendations
We really enjoyed the market area of Ottawa. The waterfalls near the embasies and art museum were picturesque in the winter.

“Chateau Cartier Hotel (" My Family Loved the 2 day experience.)”

Family from out of town stayed at the Chateau Cartier in Oct 2009 for a wedding. We booked 2 suites. and both families loved the hotel. It was very clean, decorated nicely, and the beds were comfortable. Newly renovated the rooms were very classy . The restaurant in the hotel was clean and comfortable. Very reasonable prices also. Everyone raved about the hotel and their stay there. I would certainly put up other guest from out of town there again. Overall we were very satisfied completely with all the accomadations at the Chateau Cartier.

“Large room and good access to Ottawa (by car)”

Totally nice but you need a car to have good access to your destinations. However, extremely convenient for golf!

Traveler's tip
Gatineau downtown has lots of good restaurant, and I like there better than Ottawa.

“Surprising how close I was to everything”

It met my needs of feeling I was in a luxury hotel without the associated costs. I was amazed how easy it was to get to downtown (15 minutes), St.Laurent(8), and the West Island (20). Nice breakfast set up and the room was clean and new. I could even see Mont Royal from my window. I will definitely go back!

Traveler's tip
We made our reservations early (2 months prior) through expedia and saved quite a bit. Do take the suggestion of the hotel management and remove GPS and other valuables from the car at night, there were break-ins while we were there.

“Very satisfied!!!”

Service was great, people very warm and willing to satisfy you. Air conditioning in the room did not work very well, it was a very hot Summer day. The fans provided by the staff really helped. The attention was great from the reception desk, housekeeping, restaurants, golf pro shop, and the bar. Very satisfied!!!

Traveler's tip
Great location for golf.
