Right Downtown

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Great staff
Cons: In trying to keep the hotel's room historical look, convenience is compromised. The hand towels are behind the door and hard to reach.
Great location, but the room needs to be updated.

Piece of History

An amazing historical site, close to Parliament, you can feel the importance of this hotel in Canadian history. Very pricey.

room conditions

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: The doormen were very helpful and pleasant and check in and check out persons were great
Cons: Quality of rooms
Location: great location
For what you pay to stay the night the room conditions were very disappointing. The bathroom was very run down where the taps were loose and the water would not shut off and decided to come fix the moment we were leaving. Seemed if your were getting the fancier rooms and paying more like the elite your rooms probably were better. Pricing for parking was insane.

WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE STAY, BUT GUESTS BEWARE

Posted Jul 12, 2014
Location: Canadian Parliament Buildings, the Supreme Court, Sparks Street Mall
Hotel was in an excellent area of the city within walking distance to many attractions. I enjoyed the stay for the most part but am warning other guests to be careful when you pre-authorize payment first to your credit card upon check in at the hotel. I used my credit card for the hotel restaurants and dry cleaning and charged them to my room number. Upon check out, I had received the credit card receipt for services rendered at the hotel and agreed to pay that said amount. The next day, when I checked my online banking, I had noticed the hotel had charged slightly more to my credit card than what was on the hotel receipt. I have already been in touch with the hotel and am still waiting to hear why the slightly extra charge was added. As of this point, I still have not heard from the hotel. I am hoping FAIRMONT will not disappoint and will make the proper changes to my credit card immediately.

Awesome get away!

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: The room and the history.
Location: It is right in the heart of the city. Lots of shopping, good places to eat and a short drive to the casino.
The room was huge, the hotel was magestic! Love the history surronding it. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Great location for Canada Day celebrations!

Posted Jul 9, 2014
Stayed there for a long weekend over Canada Day. Such a fantastic central location for the festivities...however even for days other than July 1, it is a great place to be situated. The palatial and historic Chateau Laurier is located right beside the Rideau Canal and Locks; overlooks the Ottawa River; is steps away from the Houses of Parliament and War Memorial, Byward Market, Rideau Shopping Centre etc etc. It is also within walking distance or short cab ride (depending which one you choose) of many great museums and galleries. Be sure to cross over to Gatineau to visit the War Museum and Canadian Museum of History. Take a 15 min walk over to 24 Sussex Drive to visit Mr Harper as well. For a bit of history and grandeur, this is the place to stay. My only complaint would be the air conditioning. As its a old hotel, I guess the air conditioning isn't as great as it could be. In the lobby it was fine; in our room not so much. If I visited Ottawa again during the hot and humid days of summer, I might try somewhere more modern for that reason. I like to be able to escape when I need a break from the heat.

Great Location, Beautiful Bones, Tired

Posted Jul 8, 2014
Pros: The location and the lobby
Cons: The rooms have not been updated for at least 15-20 years. The (car)valet service was expensive and our car was never available when we asked for it.
Hotel was rated the nicest hotel in Ottawa. It was tired, outdated, dark and the service was awful. From the moment we arrived it was continued incompetence and sub par service.
