Great hotel - location location location

Posted Oct 18, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Food
Location: Walking distance to Byward Market, Parliament buildings Elgin Street Pubs, monuments and museums.
The hotel and staff are great. The rooms are reasonable but everything else at the hotel is very costly (including all the amenities in the room. Had a small suite which was really nice except for the teeny tiny bathroom. Cleaning staff very friendly

Old and dated

Posted Oct 16, 2014
Pros: Staff
Cons: Our section of the hotel is in need of a serious upgrade, dated and overrated. Might be different if you didn't walk in, in a pair of Levi's and tee
Location: Close to everthing in Ottowa
Bathroom from the sixties, couldn't swing a cat ! Dated rooms in need of a serious upgrade. Hotel looks good on the web pictures but not so in reality.

Great location

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: Great location. Walk to lots of restaurants and historic old market area. Hotel's lobby and common areas are classical
Cons: Rooms are dated but then again this hotel is over 100 years old and this is part of character
Location: Near market area. Walk everywhere
We spent a romantic evening downtown. Had a room on sixth floor with partial view of Gatineau hills. Room was spacious with separate sitting area and one and a half bathrooms.

Pros: Location is good. The bar Zoe's is okay and the waiting and bar staff were very good and helpful.
Cons: The staff in reception and chamber maids staff could be more professional and helpful.
Location: As said before the location is good for government buildings, museums, galleries and restaurants.
I have always wanted to stay at this hotel. Upon arrival we were not met by any friendly receptionist - infact, she was quite rude. Although the architecture is quite amazing, the ambience is that of being empty, cold, and a touch of faded splendour. The in-room prices are silly: $9 for a bottle of water.

Nice historical hotel

Posted Oct 6, 2014
Pros: The architecture of the old hotel is awesome.
Cons: I realize it is a historical hotel but some work needs to be done in the washrooms to bring them up to other Fairmount hotel standers.
Location: The location of the hotel is great, and lots of things to see in the area.
I was arriving in Ottawa 1 hour before the standard check in time of 3pm and asked for early check in. I was told that I would have to wait until check in to see if this was a possibility. It was inconvenient not knowing as I had booked the last massage appointment of the day at 2:30. Had problems using my Fairmont gift card for the service. Everything worked out in the long run after I returned home with a lot of phone calls. The staff were great at rectifying the problem, but again an inconvenience. Extra charges for fridge, internet, and parking. No complementary bottle of water in room.

Very historic.

Amazing location and views. First time I ever had one bed and two bathrooms in a room though. You can't beat the location but as in anyy hotel of its age, some areas could use a little updating.

Grand old hotel near the Parliament buildings.

Posted Sep 29, 2014
Pros: architecture
Cons: Difficult to use coffee/tea kettle can't see the electrical outlet. Reading lamp broken. Vending machine almost empty. Bathroom door knob sticks.
Location: Market, mall, stroll down streets, see many older buildings. Difficult to drive to this hotel. (one way streets)
Enjoyed looking through the hotel. Difficult to park or drop someone off. Parking garage cost $10 for the 20-30 minutes it took to check in and place our things in the room.

Beautiful room, superb staff

Posted Sep 29, 2014
This is a lovely, grand old hotel in a perfect location. My room was spacious (and I think it was one of the cheapest they have) and comfortable, with modern amenities, and spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful - very prompt in dealing with a couple of things I needed. Highly recommend!
