Cute hotel, older but very clean, good location

Posted Aug 19, 2013
Pros: Style of hotel, location, clean rooms, comfortable beds, very nice desk staff, good restaurant attached.
Cons: New carpet and take down the wallpaper which is peeling.
Location: The Lost Colony outdoor play is approximately 3 miles. There are boutiques, gift shops, and restaurants at the Manteo waterfront area.
The hotel is very cute, and the room was very clean but needs to be updated. The carpet is old (green!) and has stains, and the wallpaper is peeling off in numerous places. The beds were very comfortable though and the a/c worked excellent. We ended up getting a full kitchen which we didn't really need for 1 night but it was a nice extra. We also had a pullout twin bed which my 10 year old grandson slept on but he said it was very uncomfortable. The hotel has a HUGE pool but we didn't have time to use it. There is a really cute Italian restaurant connected to the hotel which we ate at and the food was very good. We stayed at this hotel because we were going to see the Lost Colony play and it is very close to where the play is. Overall the room was comfortable for the 4 of us and I would stay there again.

Older hotel but clean and close to Lost Colony

Posted Aug 13, 2013
Traveling with a 7 and 9 year old, we enjoyed the indoor pool and appreciated the cleanliness of the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a musty smell (probably from where this was a smoking room years ago) but we didn't notice it anymore after the first night. The beds were comfortable but in need of new fabric pads to cover the plastic mattress covers. The hotel is comprised of several buildings and one appears to house weekly or monthly guests, mostly male laborer-type tenants, who congregated with visible cases of beer on a porch near the outdoor pool most of the late afternoon/evening. They did not interact with us at all, but it made this mother a bit nervous. We were not at the hotel much, and this was a great location for all of the historical sites on Roanoke Island. It was within 15 to 20 minutes of Jockey's Ridge, Wright Brothers Memorial, Bodie Island, etc. Also, beware that MANY restaurants in the area close at 9pm even on Saturday night in the peak season so you will end up at McDonalds if you eat later in the evening.

Hotel and Staff

Posted Jun 25, 2013
Pros: Clean, location and Staff....
Cons: Cant think of anything..
Location: We were done for bike week, so that was our focus.
We had a great time, we came down and stayed during OBX bike week, we enjoyed being away from all the noise and traffic, they hooked us up with the building in the rear so we had the place to ourselves, we could park our bikes right at the front doors. The rooms where huge compared to the ones on the strip and was much less expensive. We liked it so much I called and spoke to the owner and they let my son come down for his high school graduation. He said the hotel was great and the staff was great to them.

Older hotel in need of renovations.

Posted Jun 16, 2013
Pros: Location.
Cons: Room renovations desperately needed, odor in rooms, and limitations on use of hotel pool.
Location: See above.
The staff at this hotel were all very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was very outdated and in need of major renovations. The room smelled musty and old. The furnishings, carpet, bedding, etc. had clearly not been updated in quite a while giving the room and unpleasant odor. It was difficult to make it through the night in this room and I would not return. The microwave was very old and was run by means of a dial. The coffee pot looked like it was straight out of the early 80s (Mr. Coffee Concepts). The shower head in the bathroom was rusty and the tub itself had rusting. The overall feel of the room was quite gross and off putting. However, when I complained about the room the staff did provide a refund for our second night's reservation which was nice. The location is good being central to Manteo and only minutes from The Lost Colony, waterfront, aquarium, etc. The pool facilities were nice with indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, whirlpool. The only problem with that was the amenities were also available to non hotel guests as day passes and club memberships. Also, on the week we were there the indoor pool was off limits to hotel guest because it was being used for a summer camp which did not seem fair.
