“Outstanding Resort”
Exceeded my expectations
“Luxurious”
We've always wanted to stay at the Sanderling and the great winter rate drew us in.
“Wandering Review”
Pricey... and worth it...
“Looking forward to returning next year.”
The best resort on the North Carolina Outer Banks.
“Been there, won't go back.”
The Sanderling was not a satisfying experience for the price paid. This was our first experience at the Outer Banks. Having been to beach areas in Hawaii, Florida, California, Mexico, and all over the Carribean, the Outer Banks is not a great beach area. The beach is fine, but what the beach towns have allowed is just a shame. Miles of strip shopping centers with no sign control, crawling traffic, uncontrolled development etc. We were underwhelmed. The Sanderling reflects this also. It was ordinary, not really very clean, the carpet did not look like it had been vacuumed. Very mundane bathroom, it had a marble vanity, but no place to store things underneath, and one towel rod. It did have shelves, but they were inconvenient and held some things if one were tall enough. The view for was dense bushes. The lobby was large, 2 story and 1950's Southern lodgelike but hot. We enjoyed the teatime, the cookies were good. The main pool was across the busy 2-lane street. The boardwalks to the beach were splintery, you needed shoes all of the time. Some boards have been replaced with a composite material. The railings of the buildings were all untreated wood so splinters were lurking there too. All of that gray wood made it look depressing. The whole place just looked down at the heels as did most of the whole area. I think the resort is not at all comparable to other beach areas for the price paid. Will I come back again, no, money would be better spent elsewhere. 3 star place, no more.
“Very Relaxing Vacation.”
Very nice hotel. Would refer others to this site and I would return.
“So so.”
The hotel was very nice but I was disappointed that when we arrived a few things were still out of place. The hotel staff had to come and hang up a shower liner because they had forgotten to do so when we checked in. When they came to do so we were actually napping and they barged in, realized people were sleeping, and just went into the bathroom and started banging things around. It was quite rude. We called ahead to be sure there was an iron and ironing board in the room, and when we arrived... no iron/board. We called for one and the first iron they brought did not work. Luckily the second iron did. Also the very first time housekeeping cleaned the room, they took both robes and never returned them! We called several time to the front desk and asked for new ones to be delivered but... they never showed up! Sigh. The hotel was in nice condition and the fine dining restaurant they have across the street called Leftbank was incredible. I was just disappointed in the quality of service. Note to any one travelling to this hotel for a wedding or such.... the closet are so small that you cannot hang a dress or suit in them! The bar to hang clothes on is hung below wasit height in a cupboard type thing!
“Excellent Easter Getaway”
The resort was everything we thought it would be. Staff was friendly, room was clean and spacious, service was great. The initial mix-up upon arrival when we were booked for three nights but the resort only had us for one was quickly and satisfactorily resolved.
“Customer Service was not up to par for price of accomodations”
We were disappointed from the start with this inn because we could not get the Special Occasion Package for our 30th wedding anniversary. Because They had no ocean front rooms available we could not book this package. There was not flexibility or trying to please the customer. I told them that we would be happy with a room that was not ocean view. So this is why I booked thru Expedia rather than thru the hotel reservations. Also in the spa they mixed up our couples massage appointment, started our appointment 15 min late and charged us the full fee. We were at the spa 15 min prior to our appointment as we were told to be and then we had to wait 30-35 min for our couples soak to start. Our 30 min soak was not more than 18 min. The room was nice, spacious and clean and we liked the Sound view from the 2nd floor and breakfasts were delicious.
“Wonderful place for a romantic getaway.”
Beautiful beach, very comfortable, clean and attractive accomodations. Excellent service.
