Getting tacky

I like the more unusual hotels, not the corporate box hotel. And this has quirky all over it. From the old London bus reception to the crazy decor. Now this works really well when new and immaculate and would of loved to see this on day one, fast forward to today and it looks worn on the edges and unfortunately it starts to make this look, well, bordering on seedy ! The only channels I could get on my TV were sky sports, 2 obscure film channels and babe station .evening meal in the Thai restaurant was vey good but very pricey and the breakfast included in the price of the booking should read continental, felt a little conned as had to pay just short of a Tenner if you wanted a cooked breakfast, and no point in arguing with the staff about it. Wouldn't recommend and won't use the chain again

Fantastic experience

I travelled to Crazy bear for a one night stay during my business trip to Oxford. The hotel is a unique experience with very particular design. I have stayed in many nice hotels but that one is very original and comfortable at the same time. Rooms are clean, the thai restaurant serves really nice food. I will definitely come back and probably upgrade to one of the more superior room.

Rude Staff

The fact that the room was on offer and I had welcome reward points to claim made this a reasonably priced stay, but I would have felt ripped off had I paid the full price of £300! The hotel staff were rude and condescending- we arrived early and understandably the room was not ready, but when we returned 15 minutes before check in time, and were told again to go away, we were a little more put out, especially as the same staff member brought keys through to the bar area for another guest. The room we had was tiny and noisy- when the guests in the next room returned and had a shower at midnight, the resulting noise of water through the pipes woke us up and was too loud to let us sleep until not only the shower had stopped but the tank had refilled. Our wet room smelt musty and was far too hot, and elements of the decor had seen better days. By far the low point of the stay however was on check out when I was told I needed to pay for my stay and at a higher rate than I had booked it, despite the fact that I was holding a confirmation slip saying that the room had already been paid in full. Had the hotel staff been helpful and apologetic, instead of confrontational and intransigent, I might have felt differently, but as it was they tried to suggest that the fault was mine, and did nothing to rectify the situation. Overall, I was very disappointed by the attitude of the staff and the service they provided, and would definitely not recommend this hotel to others.

Out of touch

For the price of £350, i just exepected more. The room was funky in decor. low ceilings, no air con installed, so noisy mobile one with tube running out of open window. Wet room off bedroom, which with the shower spray (no door) got very wet, along with bedroom. Lovely funky sink, which did not drain. Old square B & O TV which had 5 channels. Sport (good), 2 movies (ok), MTV and Adult channel (Really??). v odd. It is an old pub and the restaurant smelt it too. bed was comfortable. In all, ok, but poor value for money.

Perfect for us

This was exactly what my husband and I wanted - a romantic night away before our baby arrives. There wasn't much in the neighbourhood which was a bit of a shame but the room (we stayed in Zinc - one of the suites) was perfect! A jacuzzi bath big enough for the two (or should that be 3!) of us and our own little garden where we enjoyed breakfast the next day. We also went to the Thai restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious!! It isn't cheap to stay or eat here, but we knew that before we went so were okay with that.

very disappointed expected a very decadent room and it wasnt. Thai meal not very good Menu not as per the website. Groupon offer going on which meant i could have got a much better deal. Managed to upgrade to full breakfast as the continental would not have been very good. For not much more could have stayed at Chewton glen. Had expected a dark intimate room but this wasnt the case. The whole experience was extremely disappointing especially as I had paid full price and people were there on Groupon. Would not recommend it. Having spoken to friends I think the other one may be better

Nice but over priced very small room with no tea making facilites or storage space
