hot and noisy

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: position
room 110 has the very loud extractor fan from the kitchen right outside the window which operates from 0645 to 2230.it is very loud even with the window closed.add to that the fact that the aircon didn't work on the warmest weekend of the year and we didn't get much sleep.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. I am very sorry that you were disturbed by the kitchen extractor fan - I am afraid that the chefs had in error left the fan on over the afternoon shift, when the kitchen is very quiet . I have spoken to the Operations Manager and he is having a meeting with the kitchen brigade as to why the fan was not turned off. With reference to the aircon not working correctly in the room, I did on Monday morning arrange for an engineer to come on site and do a thorough inspection of the whole system - it would appear that there was a problem with one of the electrical boards and was tripping out when on full use, I do apologise I am afraid I did not know until the engineer point it out. It will be rectified today. With kind regards, Peter Watt, G M

Good Base for sight-seeing.

Posted Jun 17, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Perhaps updated, but that could just be a matter of taste.
Location: On the High Street and close to the various college buildings. Good base for sight seeing.
Only stayed the one night but the staff were very helpful and efficient. The AC was a little on the weal side so the third floor may not be as good later in the season. Water pressure on the third floor had its issues but the staff passed along little tricks to help work around the problem and then all was OK. Very nice common areas and bar. Dated rooms and bathrooms but it kind of worked with the ancient building that the hotel occupied. Some would probably find it charming. It was completely suitable for my needs and I was very comfortable there (once the room finally cooled off). Since staff know who will be in what rooms when, they should set the room temperature to something like 20C prior to their arrival, instead of walking into a stuffy hot room.

thank you for your contructive feedback, we are reviewing our air conditioning at present as the weather has been exceptional over the past 2 months. Housekeeping are looking at the bedrooms on the third floor I am afraid that due to the age of the building the warm air does linger bon the third floor. Kind regards, peter Watt, GM

Lovely breakfast for 10 pounds. Your demands for a lengthy revue are excessive and next time I will not bother.

Conveniently located with everything you need

Posted Jun 2, 2014
I had a lovely stay at Mercure in 2014. The room was clean and comfortable. Although it's not terribly modern, it has everything you need and is more reasonably priced than comparable hotels in the area. Located on Merton Street just off the High Street, which is really convenient.

Perfect little hotel in a perfect central location

Posted May 16, 2014
Reception staff are excellent, especially Christa, whom I have dealt with on several occasions now. Location is delightful with amazing college buildings all around and incredibly handy for walking anywhere in the city. Public space design is impeccable. Rooms are good, though you can be lucky or not with the views - last time I was incredibly lucky; this time I got the car-park! Breakfast is especially nice in a beautiful light and well-designed room, although service can be slightly chaotic - though the food is excellent and staff charming.

Central and nice atmosphere

Posted Apr 1, 2014
Pros: Atmosphere
Cons: There was an error about a forgotten early telepone call. It could have been for an airport but fortunately wasn't!
Location: Right in the heart of the centre of the city. Excellent
Room service efficient and fast. Front desk efficient - slight problem with accents and language

Nice old building and well located!

Posted Mar 31, 2014
Pros: Generally nice room and common areas
Cons: Make sure there isn't black mould all over the grouting between the tiles in the bath/shower
Location: Close to many of the colleges like Magdalen, Lincoln and New College and close to restaurants and shops on the high street.
I stayed for one night on 23rd March. Nice to stay in centre of oxford in old quaint building. Bathrooms had black mould all over grouting - thats kind of quaint but probably really just a bit grubby! If it wasn't for this, I would have rated the hotel 4 out of 5!

Hotel needs lots of TLC.

Posted Feb 15, 2014
Pros: Location.
Cons: All the facilities and amenities (and a lift that goes to the 3rd floor). Some hoovering and dusting wouldn't go a miss.
Location: Located down the quieter end of the high street.
Really run down hotel in central oxford. The rooms were dusty, smelly and very, very tired. The bathroom was just just plain dirty. Everything you would expect to be there, was there (sort of), but it was old and worn. Every bit of wood seemed to be chipped. No drinks in the mini bar and laughably a leaflet on reception proclaimed I would be greeted with some complementary water in my room (no danger of that being there). Was there a week and glad to get home...
