Good spot in Oxford

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Good breakfast available. Rooms small but comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly.
Cons: Because the hotel is just off busy High Street, it can be noisy throughout the night. Try for a room off the street.
Location: Much to do and see in Oxford and you're close to it at the Mercure Eastgate.
Close to Oxford Botanic Garden, Magdalen and Merton Colleges. Good value ethnic food available just across nearby Magdalen Bridge.

Excellent location

Pros: location
Very good hotel and convenient for central Oxford. Hotel staff were very helpful and polite. The chain on the sink plug was very rusty, everything else was fine and such a small thing spoilt it

Thank you for your kind feedback, always a morale boost for the team. I do apologise that the sink plug was rusty, I have asked our maintenance manager to check all bathroom amenities in the hotel, I do apologise. With kind regards, Peter Watt, GM

hot and noisy

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: position
room 110 has the very loud extractor fan from the kitchen right outside the window which operates from 0645 to 2230.it is very loud even with the window closed.add to that the fact that the aircon didn't work on the warmest weekend of the year and we didn't get much sleep.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. I am very sorry that you were disturbed by the kitchen extractor fan - I am afraid that the chefs had in error left the fan on over the afternoon shift, when the kitchen is very quiet . I have spoken to the Operations Manager and he is having a meeting with the kitchen brigade as to why the fan was not turned off. With reference to the aircon not working correctly in the room, I did on Monday morning arrange for an engineer to come on site and do a thorough inspection of the whole system - it would appear that there was a problem with one of the electrical boards and was tripping out when on full use, I do apologise I am afraid I did not know until the engineer point it out. It will be rectified today. With kind regards, Peter Watt, G M

Good Base for sight-seeing.

Posted Jun 17, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Perhaps updated, but that could just be a matter of taste.
Location: On the High Street and close to the various college buildings. Good base for sight seeing.
Only stayed the one night but the staff were very helpful and efficient. The AC was a little on the weal side so the third floor may not be as good later in the season. Water pressure on the third floor had its issues but the staff passed along little tricks to help work around the problem and then all was OK. Very nice common areas and bar. Dated rooms and bathrooms but it kind of worked with the ancient building that the hotel occupied. Some would probably find it charming. It was completely suitable for my needs and I was very comfortable there (once the room finally cooled off). Since staff know who will be in what rooms when, they should set the room temperature to something like 20C prior to their arrival, instead of walking into a stuffy hot room.

thank you for your contructive feedback, we are reviewing our air conditioning at present as the weather has been exceptional over the past 2 months. Housekeeping are looking at the bedrooms on the third floor I am afraid that due to the age of the building the warm air does linger bon the third floor. Kind regards, peter Watt, GM

Lovely breakfast for 10 pounds. Your demands for a lengthy revue are excessive and next time I will not bother.

Conveniently located with everything you need

Posted Jun 2, 2014
I had a lovely stay at Mercure in 2014. The room was clean and comfortable. Although it's not terribly modern, it has everything you need and is more reasonably priced than comparable hotels in the area. Located on Merton Street just off the High Street, which is really convenient.

Great town centre location and friendly staff

Lovely Hotel in idylic Oxford. our room was opposite the door to the stairs and the floorboards creaked outside our room every time someone left or entered but apart from that the hotel was great. high quality right near everything you need. hotel staff were helpful when we asked about getting to certain places. car park is a bit weird but its a valet service and they just move your car if its in the way. all in all a great stay.

Perfect little hotel in a perfect central location

Posted May 16, 2014
Reception staff are excellent, especially Christa, whom I have dealt with on several occasions now. Location is delightful with amazing college buildings all around and incredibly handy for walking anywhere in the city. Public space design is impeccable. Rooms are good, though you can be lucky or not with the views - last time I was incredibly lucky; this time I got the car-park! Breakfast is especially nice in a beautiful light and well-designed room, although service can be slightly chaotic - though the food is excellent and staff charming.
