“Everyting great, but mattress too hard”
Great location for Oxford, if you have a car! Lovely suurroundings with its own horse pasture. Siimilar rooms to a Hampton Inn, but with a nicer retaurant.and lounge. Only complaint was a stiff mattress. Could use pilow toppers.
“Great stay in Oxford”
The hotel had modest decor and was modern, clean and nice. There are also a gym, a pool and hot tub on property. There was plenty of parking outside. The area was quiet which was nice. The rooms had plenty of space as did the bathroom (can't say the same for a lot of the other hotels in England). I liked that there was a teapot and tea in the room also. The windows open, and I do not recall there being air-conditioning, which we didn't necessarily need, except our room was on a lower level and we didn't want to leave the windows open overnight, so it did get a little stuffy. It is within a short distance from the town centre and the university. The only problem we had was that it was a little difficult to find at first because there are no street numbers and you really have to look for the sign on this low stone wall since the property is somewhat hidden behind a grass field and trees.
“Nice place to stay near Oxford University.”
Positives: Lovely pastoral setting - hotel is surrounded by photogenic horse grazing pasture land. Hotel has indoor heated pool with heated jacuzzi - free access with hotel stay. Spacious shower and bathroom with heated mirror were charming. Rooms are quiet; staff accommodating. Hotel is served by X3 bus from the rail station [~L1.40 one way], and many buses from town. It is about a 15 minute or 1 mile straight level walk down Abingdon Rd from town which is also safe and charming as it passes Hinksey Park (outdoor pool and tennis) and the Folly Bridge. Bus back to town accessible from Hinksey park across the street. Minor Negatives: Room and hallways lacked Air Conditioning or fan, and had only one window that could open - weak ventilation. (Lobby had A/C.)
“nice oxford option”
This is a nice roomy, modern hotel. Although not central, its walkable from the city centre (just) and there's a good bus service on the main road. Free internet was nice, and the grounds looked lovely (it was very cold weather when i was there so i didnt explore them much) Also free parking which is impossible to find in Oxford, and city parking is the most expensive in the UK.
“Excellent choice for Oxford”
Would definitely return. Especially appreciated the helpful and friendly staff, the free wifi, and the comfortable and spacious room. Although we did not have a car, this would be an excellent choice for anyone who does, with plentiful free parking.
“For the Expedia price, a good stay close-ish to town”
For a single person room, my room was very large. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was large, and there was room to hang up my clothes. Be careful getting in and out of the tubs, however, because they are extremely deep. I did not hear noise from accompanying rooms. Traveling alone in a foreign country for the first time, I felt safe here. As for cleanliness, the inside of the hot-water heater for the coffee and tea was not clean when I arrived. My major complaint was to do with the Internet. The Internet service provider was completely out all over the country when I arrived, and I needed access to the Internet on a time-sensitive basis every day. The people at the front desk merely said there were Internet cafes in town and did not give me any recommendations, which lead to me wandering around town for a long time. Then, when the Internet connection was reestablished, it turned out to have heavy limits on uploading and downloading, which meant avoiding watching video of any kind and avoiding image-heavy websites and added unncessary stress to my stay.
“Beautiful Area”
Hotel is located about 1/2 mile from Oxford High street area. Beautiful residential area. One reastaurant/Pub nearby as well as hotel restaurant. We enjoyed both the English breakfast and a dinner in the hotel restaurant and walked to area restaurants the other days.
“I would stay here again”
This hotel is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, although it is on a major street with frequent buses. As a woman, I felt safe walking there alone at night. The building is modern with a wonderful gym, pool and whirlpool. This is not right in the heart of Oxford, but it is an easy walk. The room was large and comfortable. The only downside was that our room was over the lobby and there was some noise from the bar at night, though it did not last late on a Friday night. This is a major wedding venue and that may be factor on a Saturday night. A very nice hotel and I would stay there again.
“Fine place to stay”
This represented an interesting combination of mid-range American motel and more typical English small hotel. The price was fair, the room clean and pleasant, and the service mostly gracious and accommodating (even if they remain baffled by American's thirst for ice). The location is very convenient to the important bits of Oxford. Be aware that many--most--British and European hotels don't use top sheets or supply blankets. You may have to take apart the heavy comforter to get a decent night's sleep (they apparently assume that every room temperature will be a uniform 30 degrees). And at this hotel, stay away if you can from the internet service. Their supplier, Swiss Telecom, seems to be running a scam (billing for services not ordered or authorized), and of course the hotel used the Sergeant Shultz defense.
“beds uncomfortable, have to pay for internet”
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice and overall it is a good value for the money. The first time we stayed we had a very comfortable room and the bed was nice, our only complaint was having to pay for internet access. I really feel in this day that should be included in the price of the room. Also, they don't tell you that you can actually get free wi-fi if you sit in the lounge/bar area, and we found that out by accident after paying for 1 day of internet. If you are providing free internet in your bar, why should I have to pay for it in the room?? This time the room we had was not as nice, and the bed was downright uncomfortable. My back was really complaining after the 4 nights we spent there, and it was a relief when we switched to the much nicer airport hotel. The decor is a little dated. The staff are very friendly and helpful., and it is nice to have access to the gym/pool. Overall it was a good value for the money, but I think I would look for another option next time I stay in Oxford (I travel to the UK often). Still, if you get a good deal on the room, it's a pretty solid good choice.
