Art Hotel Rachmaninov

5, Kazanskaya Str., St. Petersburg - Map
This place is unique, I have previously stayed in modern run of the mill "square block" hotels at places like Moscow, but the Art hotel Rachmaninov is like a small museum, and it gives you the true feeling of being in St Petersburg.

"Best Value in St. Pete"
You are right in the heart of the action, here. Nevsky Pr. is the main shopping/hanging out artery in St. Pete. We walked to many of the "not to be missed" attractions (St. Isaac's, Cathedral Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood (the one with the colorful domes), canal boat rides, the Hermitage, The Russian Museum, The Cathedral of our Lady of Kazan,The Idiot Restaurant, the Singer building, etc. If we got tired, just hoped a bus (you don't need exact change). There are 4 rooms, all different sizes. We had the smallest. Ask for an upgrade (if it's not White Night season) and maybe they can upgrade you. If you have heavy luggage and are not fit, avoid this place because you have to get the suitcases up the staircase yourself. Wasn't that hard for us but something to think about. Bath is spotless (with modern fixtures) as is the whole place. They have a 40 gal. hot water heater in the kitchen so you shouldn't run out. The hotel manager (also the only person there, other than the house keeper that comes in for a few hours in the morning) will make you a nice breakfast of eggs and sausage or two types of cold cereal, toast, jam/butter, etc. whenever you want it. She will let you use her computer/printer for Hermitage Tix - boarding passes, but it's very old and slow. If you don't mind a place without a door-man and don't want to spend three to four hundred dollars (or more) on a room, I don't think you can beat this place for location/price.

"A lovely stay at the ACME Hotel"
The hotel was a little difficult to find at first but if you stand right in front of St. Issac's Cathedral with the statue in the square at your back, the street is to your right. Go down about 3 blocks and just past the coffee shop is the buzzer to the hotel. I found my room #1, to be the largest room ever in all my travels. My bathroom was not a shared bathroom but it was just outside my room. The drapes are sheer so you may want to bring an sleep mask, it didn't bother me. Though it was -8 C outside, my room was not cold at all. Yulia was really helpful and she even drew me a map my first day there, Anastasia was the other person on the desk my second day. Both girls speak very good English and are very eager to answer your questions about the city. I would certainly book here again when I come to visit St. Peteresburg for the 3rd time next year.

"I can't wait to travel back to Saint Petersburg"
There was fruit delivered to my room within an hour of my arrival (I didn't request it). There was water and chocolates when I came in after my night out, and the bed was turned down. The gym had great, well maintained equipment. The staff was courteous and helpful. They booked two last minute excursions for me, and arranged a car to take me to the airport before I left. All spoke really good English.

The studio apartment was exactly as described, basic but very clean and with all the equipment needed for our short break (4 nights). it was also lovel yand warm which was essentaial as it snowed whilst we were there. It was an excellent location being within walking distance of many of the sites in the city centre. It was lovely to stay within a residential block and the local bar next door served excellent vodka! It was very quiet and convenient. The STN Apartments staff were very helpful.

Pocket Guide: St. Petersburg Palace Square - Hermitage Independent Hotels

The Winter Palace is the most famous building of imperial St. Petersburg, not only as the residence of the Tsars and the backdrop for the 1905 and 1917 Revolutions, but also as the home of the Hermitage, the world's largest museum of art. The present structure, completed in 1762 and designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, boasts a 200-meter opulent baroque façade.
