OK for area - needs updating

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: The room was big. It had plenty of room for our family of 4. I will return to the hotel
Cons: The TV needs to be updated. The restaurant needs major help. My steak was inedible. It had a rancid odor. I will not eat there again
Location: Eat downtown at the restaurants
Room was clean. Could use updating. For the area though, room was a good deal.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything starting with the owners, they should take some pride in their hotel.
Location: Close to the Suagerties horse show is the only benefit.
The room was dirty, stains on the sheets. The staff lives on the gorunds but you can call and call and no one will help you, never anyone at the front desk. Had to get new sheets and change them myself. They take your money up front so you are stuck with this awful place; if you paid upon leaveing they would never make any money. Mold on the shower curtains, locks on the door had duck tape over them becasue they were broken. The health authorities should be called on this place as it is unsafe.

Good location, poor room quality

Posted Jul 8, 2013
Pros: Location
We stayed at the Mountain Lodge for two nights during the 4th July Weekend. I will start with the good things...It's location is pretty good as it is in close proximity to beautiful Kaaterskill Falls, Hunter Mountain Ziplining Tours and North-South Lake. There is a nice restaurant on the property which serves decent food and has live music during the weekend. The lady who seems to run the place is helpful and accommodating. Nonetheless, the room we stayed in could use an upgrade and they should at least bother to put in an air freshener as it had a unpleasant odor upon entering. Small refrigerator would also be nice to have while people stay during hot summer days. Pool wasn't very clean, seemed as if they weren't able to get it ready in time for the season. Lastly, their wifi isn't reliable, it's slow and difficult to connect to.

Shabby motel feel at "lodge" prices

Posted May 28, 2013
Pros: Gorgeous creek and wooded trails, Pet friendly at no additional fee.
Cons: Very musty room smell, overflowing ashcan outside door. Nasty, inedible overpriced food at hotel restaurant, "Kindred Spirits." Desk rarely staffed.
Location: We were in town for a wedding in nearby West Shokan, NY but would have liked to explore. Lots of artsy and musical events were listed in local paper.
All the room surfaces were clean, but it had a very musty smell. Most disgusting was the waist-high cement ash tray outside our room that looked like it had been emptied about 75 packs ago. It went uncleaned during our 2 night stay. Air conditioner/heater worked well, which was good on our unseasonably cold May visit. But it was placed in a window so high that I had to climb on the counter in order to turn it on. The room's positive features were a small refridgerator and a nice round table with two chairs. Bathroom was small but adequate and clean. Only wifi available is in the lobby (or perhaps rooms adjacent to the office). Lobby has comfy couches so it was a pleasant place to check email on my laptop on a late Saturday morning, if only they had lit a fire in the lobby woodstove--it was a rainy, windy 45F & the front door kept blowing open. No staff were at the desk to ask. The big plus is the beatiful property -- behind the office is a wide, rushing creek piled high with round river stones. Barn swallows were diving over the water. A wooded trail headed towards a water fall, but due to the rain relentless rain we never had a chance to explore. The fact that its dog friendly was why we chose this motel, & the spacious field surrounding the creek were perfect for running our 2 dogs. Beware of restaurant on premises: Kindred Spirits. Overpriced, dusty tacky decor & nasty food: we sent back fried calamari that were inedibly overcooked & tasted of burnt oil.

A place to avoid if at all possible!

For the price that we paid we expected far more than we got. The room was very basically furnished and was dingy although it was clean. The bathroom was poorly finished and the shower took some working out and was difficult to use. The towels were thin and of very poor quality and were certainly useless for drying yourself. The only saving grace was that the owner was very friendly and helpful and a mine of information on the local area.

Humbling experience/expect a lil' R&R - Very Quiet

Posted Jun 12, 2012
Pros: The Owner Al, he was very friendly and helpful. Large clean bathrooms, 3 sinks total in rooms. Beds were comfortable.
Cons: Car A MUST!! No coffee maker, nor microwave in room. One of my rooms missing a mini fridge.
Location: We visited the North-South Lake Campground , The ride up the mountain had a really nice waterfall to see.
The Owners which handle the front desk were very nice. However, the front desk was often empty even though with a quick search around the place, they were always nearby. I thought it was unusual that I got charged the full stay for my 2 rooms upon arrival. I don't think other hotels practice this. I visited the hotel for a weekend with a family of 8 & we were extremely disappointed that the pool was not up and running, it was early June and it was still closed, which was the MAJOR amenity why I had chosen this hotel for a 5 y.o., 12 y.o. & a 17 y.o. Gameroom only had 2 games. We visited the immense creek in the back and walked down to a section where you could actually swim. But you should definitely be a good swimmer. (Tip: Wear sneakers to walk there.) The kiddie playground needs upgrading but my kids still played & enjoyed it. Wish the rooms had coffee makers & microwaves. Nowadays, these are a given. However there was a microwave in the lobby for everyone's use. The Kindred Spirit Restaurant & Bar on the grounds was a nice place. Once again the staff is very nice and the band (one of the members being the Owner) was very entertaining and a nice surprise. Their dishes were a little overpriced considering you don't really get any side dishes with your meal (such as salad, soup, nor bread). The wait for your food was quite long even just for coffee but their bagels were good. Overall the adults were content but the kids a bit bored. Stay for peace and quiet.
