Nice place, shame about the management!

Posted Oct 16, 2013
Pros: A good basic hotel for travellers on a budget. Good kitchen facilities and breakfast is included. The anex had 2 bathrooms so we didn't have to queue.
Cons: The management! This lady needs to learn how to treat her customers with respect and learn some customer service skills.
Location: The hotel and its anex are both located close to the port. It's quite central and in part of the old town, so a good base for exploring the city.
When we arrived we tried to phone the lady to come & let us in. She wasn't answering the phone & a man came over &showed us where the keys to the place were "hidden". The keys inside didn't have our names, so we kept trying to phone the lady and we used 2 different mobile numbers, but she wasn't answering either of them, just kept cutting our calls off. This went on for 2 hours, til finally she rang back - I explained we had a reservation & would like to check in. She said "I don't answer my phone unless I have an appointment!" & that we didn't have a reservation despite us having received 3 confirmation emails from Expedia. She told me that my credit card for the payment had been rejected so we no longer had a reservation. I replied "You can't just cancel my reservation without notifying me. For a start, there's no problem with my credit card as I've been using it all month with no problems & Expedia even sent me an email yesterday to confirm my reservation. If you had a problem charging the card, why didn't you contact me and ask to confirm the card details or provide a different card? You had my number & email but you didn't bother to make contact at all &instead just cancelled our reservation!" She met us outside the flat 5 minutes later where she was continually rude & told us she had 1 spare room left in the anex nearby, as if she was doing us a favour. The bed was a large single at best, not a double which we paid for, but we took it to avoid further hassle!

Right on the water and very clean and comfortable. My friends and I had really a really good stay. The only thing is that there was no internet available.

Loved it!

The staff was absolutely wonderful. Loved the location. It was an adorable little quaint space, perfect for 2 people. Breakfast was always homemade and DELICIOUS. We really had a great time staying here.

We stayed at Cult n Sea for one night in September 2011. It was a long way from the train station and we also discovered it was a long way from the airport bus stop! We arrived and a cleaner (who spoke no English) explained about the keys and that breakfast was served from 9-10am. As we were leaving to catch a flight the next day at 7am this was no good. She did not explain what to do about paying and we assumed the owners would return later for us to pay. At first glances the room appeared pleasant, however there was no airconditioning (there was a fan) and it was very hot! The bed was not very comfortable and there were ants on the floor. Although it was not ensuite the bathroom was next door so this was fine. Cult n Sea seemed to be completely deserted, we never saw any other guests which was a little disconcerting. The neighbourhood seemed a little run down although this seemed typical for Palermo! The owners never appeared by the time we left to catch our flight. There were no instructions on how to pay and we ended up leaving the money and keys in an envelope on the bed which also meant we had to leave the front door to the building unlocked! Not very safe! We would not recommend Cult n Sea. If it was a bit cleaner and the owners were there it would probably be much better!
