Hotel Villa Igeia Palermo

Posted Oct 22, 2014
Pros: We did like the traditional style , garden and and seaview.
Cons: THE AIR CONDITIONING IN OUR ROOM WAS NOT EFFECTIVE
Location: The location is not great .. an oasis of peace in a rather rundown area of Palermo... lovely sea views and gardens.
We enjoyed our stay, The hotel was quiet. The staff were helpful. Old world charm

If you like history then this is a great place to stay. It's a little outside of downtown Palermo but not inconvenient because of easy taxi access and their free shuttle. The restaurant is a little stuffy and expensive for dinner but nice for one night. The breakfast buffet is great.

Well Kept Hotel - Edge of Town Location

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: Room comfort and the beautiful gardens.
Cons: Free wi-fi should be provided.
The hotel is quite large so it lacks the personal touch, but we found the staff to be very efficient. The hotel has lovely garden grounds with views out to the marina and bay beyond which provides an oasis of calm. Our room was very quiet and the bed and armchairs comfortable and we had plenty of storage space. Downsides would be the lack of an informal restaurant for evenings when you do not feel like having the full formal dining experience, the out of town location that makes everything a drive or taxi ride away (although not a particularly long one if the traffic is being kind) and an annoying lack of free wi-fi which you would expect for the cost of the room.

Excellent facilities.

Cons: Insufficient staff at reception leading to delays that were inappropriate for a hotel of this standard.
Excellent location and facilities. Restaurant particularly good, and light lunch beside the pool was also very good.

Historic hotel, located just outside Palermo

Posted Oct 2, 2014
Pros: Location. Restaurant. Pool.
Cons: The luncheon restaurant at the pool is horrible and prices outrageous. Better maintenance of rooms, such as making certain all light bulbs work.
Location: While it seems to be located outside of Palermo, it is actually adjacent and better located for not having to drive in downtown.
The hotel is a beautiful historic hotel well located just outside Palermo. This location is ideal since you avoid having to deal with Palermo traffic. Hotel runs a free shuttle to the city center, but you must reserve and seating is VERY limited [and shared with other hotels]. The hotel restaurant is superb and reasonable for the quality. Do NOT however order food poolside as the quality is miserable and the cost is obscene. How about 24 euro for a hamburger! It would be nice if the hotel kept a better watch on maintaining the rooms. We had several lamps with blown lightbulbs. Last night there, there was no hot water so a final shower before traveling home was impossible. The management stepped up to the plate and comped our final dinner!

An oasis in a very active city. The view from the restaurant terrace is worth the trip.

Charming and nostalgic hotel

Posted Sep 21, 2014
Pros: A charming and nostalgic place to stay. Lovely grounds and pool. Lovely view of the harbour when you sit in the terrace restaurant and bar.
Location: Palermo is a 10 minute taxi ride away from the hotel but nothing directly outside the hotel of interest, just residential.
The hotel is a half hour taxi ride from Palermo airport, no problems getting a taxi and 35 euros for the fare. Welcoming arrival at the hotel and easy check in. Shown to the room by the reception staff and all of the hotel facilities explained and maps of Palermo provided and areas of interest pointed out. Room was very large and very pleasant, had a good size bathroom and separate seating room. The public areas are all very clean and tidy as were the grounds and the pool area. The restaurant is on the terrace which overlooks the bay but the only downside is the large dock yard to the left of the hotel. The food is very good but a little pricey. You can eat in the bar for a snack, which is a little cheaper. There is very little to do outside of the hotel as it's in a residential area. The hotel has a shuttle bus free of charge to get you into the city Palermo, which takes 10 minutes. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay send would definitely recommend this lovely hotel

Beautifully located hotel, good diving

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: Room and terrace, setting and history
Cons: Fitness room - air con not working..
Location: Hotel is next to a working port and marina so although the complex is lovely when you walk out the gates you are hit with the 'real' Scicily.
Had a really nice stay in a Deluxe Plus room with terrace. Views were stunning and was worth the extra money to upgrade. Overall the hotel was great although the fitness centre seemed to be a bit of an afterthought and the machines did not seem very well cared for. Some parts of the hotel were a bit tired which you would probably expect with a building of this age but this did not affect our enjoyment in any way. Very nice buffet breakfast - other food and drink in the hotel was pricey as you would suspect for a 5* hotel. However if you want you can walk down to the harbour which is just around the corner and eat very cheaply. We hired a car (from Hertz) which - after getting used to the rather 'unpredictable' driving in Palermo was a good call as it enabled us to see some great places outside of Palermo. The mountains in Madonie region were particulary stunning (there is even a ski resort there in winter..). Also went to the Mafia (AntiMafia) museum in Corleone which is well worth a visit. We wanted to do some scuba diving and used Diving Center Saracen in Palermo who were fanatastic. Their dive boat is based in the marina directly below the hotel so you just had to walk down a few steps and you were away. The centre is PADI 5* and is run by Laura (who speaks English) and Alberto (who doesn't but this matters little underwater) who are both lovely so if you want good diving without the hassle I would give them a go. In a nutshell would happily go a again.

Luxury hotel in Palermo

Posted Aug 28, 2014
Room 256 is appalling - basically you are on the road - I didn't sleep and had to ask to be moved the next night. Shower heads in both rooms were dodgy. The gardens, pool are and restaurant are lovely, but the pool restaurant menu is limited and the Caesar salad lacked any imagination and appeared only to have been briefly shown to a chicken rather than including much. Disappointing. And a good 20-30 minutes to Palermo and a €20 cab fare.

Lovely hotel right on the harbour.

The hotel is a great size to give you an exclusive feeling and we never had trouble getting a table/sun lounger. The staff were brilliant and couldn't be more helpful. I highly recommend the hotel and would visit again.
