We always stayed at this hotel prior to its rebranding. Up until now we had nothing but the best things to say about the place. Unfortunately after the name change ( it used to be The Viceroy ) few other things changed as well. From insignificant adjustments like no more newspaper in the am, no complementary morning coffee to a more sidnificant ones. It's not as clean as it used to be , the trash bins on the property haven't been emptied during our stay so a decaying , rotting smell took over the pool area. Not very present and relaxing:) Maybe they need to figure out a few things before they get it right. Let's hope it will happen soon. Still loving the premises and the bungalow feel to the place. Best of luck.

Tucked away and cozy.

Pros: The immediate call to action on accommodation defects. The really great staff. The food. The peaceful pool with no children!
Cons: The outdoor furnishings need new fabric, more umbrellas, free morning coffee in the lobby or coffee maker in the room, shower caps in the bathrooms.
I have stayed many times at the Viceroy now the Avalon Hotel. Each visit has been enjoyed. The hotel and amenities looked a little tired, so the change of ownership appears to be making the needed updating. However, close attention to detail is important. For example not placing the computer router over the T.V. to shine like a harbor beacon at night, or making sure the phone is in working order, and entry light has a bulb in it. Landscaping needs to done at intervals so as not to be weed whacking and mowing poolside during peak poolside hours. After addressing these issues, which the staff promptly did, the stay was lovely. The staff is excellent. The close walking distance to the downtown is a plus.

Pros: the valet staff were prompt, courteous and friendly
Cons: The bathroom was in poor condition; tub had been PAINTED and was peeling as was the baseboard. Few towels on a painted baby changing table.
Location: One block from main street and 5 minutes from the airport were the draw.
I had reserved two rooms; one through Expedia and one at the hotel. Calling the day before to request that they be in proximity to each other, I inquired as to the seating arrangements of the "Queen Suite" and was told there was no chairs in the rooms. Perhaps the front desk staff had not been in the "suite"? In fact, one room had a chair and love seat and one had a love seat.The property has valet parking only. I arrived 14 minutes ahead of the 4pm check-in time and neither room was ready. We were placed in the back building facing the street. The drapes covered the a/c unit making it impossible to draw them at night and the deck light would not turn off so it was a choice between being hot or awake by the porch light. There is a required spa fee whether one uses the facility or not. The restaurant was closed for renovation with three tables pool side for service. Supposedly the restaurant opens at 6am but there was no coffee ready at 6:30am and the staff couldn't make change so begrudgingly gave us some mediocre coffee free.

A little Run Down - Great service

Cons: Really look after the cleanliness, with white flooring and white everything it can look dirty
Location: Cheekys is great for brunch!
a little overrated in terms of facilities - Amazing staff !!! - The rooms look a little bit old, they just did a coat of paint and added some furniture that has seen better days, the staff was great, the bed is comfy.

Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our room, the grounds, the quiet atmosphere, the cleanliness, the friendly staff and the close proximity of downtown.
Cons: An upgrade of the shower/bathtub would be a great improvement.
Location: WE enjoyed shopping, eating in fine restaurants and going to a tavern to meet local people.
The staff greeted us with a warm welcome. We were early to register but discovered our room was ready and had been upgraded from a premium studio to a cottage suite. We were promptly escorted to our accommodations and were brought ice at our request. Through our entire stay we were treated courteously. Room service was prompt. We were told many fine restaurants were located within walking distance which they were. I am disabled and am only able to walk short distances but found I was able to walk to the restaurants, shops and bars easily. The pools were clean and well maintained. The food was excellent, generous and reasonably priced, the times we ate at the hotel. The cleaning staff was always available to service our room when we requested service. We usually do not require a change of sheets and towels and did not find we needed them here for our four day stay. The beds are extremely comfortable and assured us of a good night's sleep, especially for a person with back problems. There was always someone available for help if needed. The room was quiet and we were not disturbed by other guests, groundspersons, or the cleaning staff. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Avalon and would like to return again if we return for a vaction in Palm Springs.

Unfortunately Time Warner Cable had taken over the hotel in a retro fit operation. Guests were angry as we were unaware this was to happen. The manager Sean Najarro handled my situation very professionally exceeding expectations in terms of making some concession on the billing. Happy to return next year!!!!

I was given a room with a fake window and half street walkway window with a a view of any peeping Tom and an electrical box....Room #301. The door to the vestibule did not lock and faced the parking lot. The key device was no longer working. I spoke to the desk about the lack of safety and I got the deer in he head light look. I take offense to this as a single traveler as I actually have to pay more for a suite. If they give you room #301, find another hotel. DC

Tennis Club area gem

We love the location. Nice pools (there are 3!) with good poolside service. Bed is comfortable but pillows need an upgrade. Rooms facing the pools are the ones to have - we were tucked in a corner around the back of the hotel.

Cons: no coffee maker in room, resort fee of $35 per day is excessive
Location: intereresting places to walk to
we enjoyed the central location, the buildings and ground are very well kept, staff was helpful
