A Room With(out) a View

Posted Dec 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel was clean, modern, & affordable, & though we got in too late to use it, it has a nice rooftop pool/bar. That said, there were a couple of big issues: #1 - We were given a room without a window. In its place was an odd floor-to-ceiling glass-enclosed fake garden complete with astroturf and lined with mirrors for a funhouse effect. Combined with the humid climate of Panama, this made the room stuffy, dark, and dizzying. In all my travels, I've never stayed at any hotel in the world that had rooms without windows, and I was bothered by the fact that nowhere on their website or in the room descriptions or in our reservation was it noted that it would be possible we'd be stuck with one. #2 - The bell staff was incredibly attentive, but the front desk was useless. I'm definitely not one of those travelers who expect to speak English everywhere they go, but almost none of the staff spoke any English, so it was very difficult to get help with basic things like getting an iron or asking about checkout time, much less hailing a taxi or asking about local restaurants. But more than that, the staff was curt and dismissive - which, for a hotel that advertises its focus on extraordinary "concierge service", is very disappointing. All in all, if you make sure to specifically reserve a room with a window, it's a decent place to stop for a night, especially because of the convenient location, but in the future I'd much rather spend a few extra dollars for the Le Meridien or Trump.

Great choice

Great staff and service; Internet quality was average, but acceptable; great location, clean, nice decor... My only complaint is that for its pricey rate, they should include free breakfast.

A nice well located hotel

Posted Oct 16, 2013
In general terms everything is fine with this hotel. However, there are some things that MUST be improved: 1. In the room 301 there is no way you use the toilet unless you don't have legs or sit with your legs towards one side. They build a huge marble sink table and left no room in front of the toilet. Maybe other rooms dont have this problem... 2. Llights please!!!!! everything is very modern, in black and grey, but not enough lights. How are you supposed to apply make up and dont look like dracula if there is not light in a black room? 3. Please add other bottled water options, not only Evian for $3 the little bottle.

Great hotel

Really slick hotel, just don't get the "garden room" with no windows. The nicer rooms with windows were amazing, well worth any upgrade.

Single night in Panama City

Posted Sep 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
We really loved the the bed, incredibly comfortable, lots of pillows. The room and bathroom seemed a bit dark for us, the lighting just didn't work for us. The "garden" view was a real hoot. It was a small part of the room enclosed in glass with some fake grass, white rocks, pretty plants and fancy lighting; we enjoyed a good laugh about it. The rooftop pool was awesome! Just the 4 of us and great Mojito's on a September night; warm and beautiful. No coffee maker in the room, no breakfast included. They wanted to charge an arm and leg to bring us coffee and were a bit confused when we opted to get it ourselves; room service is rarely worth the extravagant charges.
