Michael was very helpful in scheduling for taxi transportation. Everything was done very professionally and on a timely fashion. My husband and I had a chance to see "The Panama Canal". That was very exciting.

Overpriced

Posted Apr 18, 2014
The building is lovely, the room was nice and the bed comfortable, however we felt it was way overpriced and the buffet that you are trapped into using (it is the only food nearby) was RIDICULOUS. It cost $50 US for 2 people for mediocre food. Pretty building and neat history but in no way worth the costs involved. Would not go back.

Dear Julie, Thank you for your comments about your experience with us However we believe that your opinion, though respected, is different from the opinion of the majority of our customers. Our current offer provides a buffet menu where you daily get 3 cream or soup, 6 salads, vegetable crudites, 3 varieties of cooking show, veal, pork, chicken and fish, pizza corner and paella corner, in addition to our various desserts. As you know, you can eat as much as you want, for the same price. Besides if still you consider, you could get other options such us our Room Service or snack bar. We hope to see you again soon in our hotel. Best Regards Alberto Jerez Director Melia Panama Canal

It's a nice 3.5 star resort with a great pool

Posted Mar 19, 2014
Pros: big pool. not crowded. good breakfast with selections. huge room and bathroom. good wifi.
Cons: it's a compound, and can't walk to anywhere (also dangerous). Waterfront activities non-existent other than many outside tourists taking boat rides.
Room was huge, with a large bathroom. A good selection of breakfast food. We organized shuttle to pick us up from Tocumen airport for a 11:30pm pickup. Flight was late, and we got picked up ok. The shuttle price was a lot cheaper than all the other quotes I got (I paid $85US for the 3 of us, compared to 3 other quotes all $300 or $100pp!!! 1 quote from an English speaking tour operator, and 2 from locals who could communicate in English). The best part of the hotel was the pool. It was huge, and not too many people using it. and nobody to bother you really. If you want a drink, you have to walk up to the bar to get it. Lots of chairs and umbrellas. We asked the concierge to arrange for a taxi to take us to the FreeZone to buy some wine to take with us to the cruise. Marlene from the concierge desk told us it'll cost $10 for the ride there. There's a shuttle to come back to the hotel at 5pm, so we can use it to come back. However she and another friend also came along for the ride, so that they can do some shopping there too! We asked how much to take us to the Canal, and she said $50pp!! we decided not to go since too expensive. We only paid $20 for a taxi driver to take us when we were in Panama City, to get us from our hotel, wait for 2 hours and take us back. That was much cheaper.

Dear Antonio, Thanks for your nice comments about our resort. We always try to keep up our cleaning and service. Concerning to the pool, as you should read on the advices located at the enrace to the pool, pool service ends at 6:00 pm because at this tiem we atart to clean with chemical products whicn could make any allergy or reaction to anyone. that's we advice not to use the pool. Besides at 6:00 end the lifeguard service. So there's another reason for not use the pool. This rule is common in most of the hotels in the world, because we want to take care of our guests. Unique lovely hotel

Posted Jan 27, 2014
Pros: Decor,clean,setting
Cons: Restaurant needs help, especially since you are pretty much locked in to it.we had lunch at a .great place -Los Canones-on the way back from Portobell
Location: Went to Portobello (3hrs round trip) and to fort San Lorenzo (also 3hour trip) they are in opposite directions. Both were interesting, but San Lorenzo
Loved this place. Very Spanish -beautiful ceramics, tile floors, real wood furniture. Awesome pool! Lovely setting on the lake. It is quite secluded , which in Colon is a good thing. Hotel restaurant was the only down side. It was not bad , just was not good-bereft style. The hotel deserves better!

Nice Location with a good view, but...

Posted Jan 3, 2014
Pros: The main building, the surrondings, and the pool.
Cons: Everything in this place could be improved.
I just goy back from this hotel. Went with my family to spent new year´s eve. I live as an expat in Panama. To be totally honest , it´s a very nice building, with amazing surroindings, but if you are looking for a very pleasent getaway this is not your place. It seems like this place has no manager. The restaurant was awfull, just buffet, so if you dont want this option you are ruined ( no room service menu in the room). No cofee machine in the room , and no place in the hotel to get a good & hot cofee. The waitress in the restaurant seemed the has no hotel preparation at all, once I asked for hot water for my baby, but she just raised her shoulders and said " I dont know", finally I got the hot water in the lobby´s front desk as a favor of the receptionist. If you are going alone on a very short business trip maybe I would recomend staying there if there are not other good options, but definitly not a good chioce for other purpose.
