Basic, but clean and close to Gare de L'est

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Pros: Convenient location Good value Clean
Cons: Some of the fixtures and fittings were rusty and towels old
Location: Opposite Gare de L'est and not far from Gare du Nord. Right side of city for Canal St Martin; Place de la Republique, Bastille
It would be unfair to rate this small and typically Parisian hotel too harshly, as its official 1* grading reflects what it is - relatively cheap and cheerful. If you don't want basic, book elsewhere, but for a place to lay your head there are far worse in Paris. One up from a hostel, it's perhaps beyond the hostel price range and without some of the contemporary facilities the newer hostels offer, but affords privacy and, if you're looking for it, the degree of anonymity, that hostels don't tend to. Location is right opposite Gare de L'est on Bld de Strasbourg, so great if you're using the station to arrive/depart, and not too far either if you're coming into Gare du Nord. There is no lift, so being accommodated in a 6th floor (top) room might have been a trek had I been of older generation or carrying more bags. The room was clean. Sparsely furnished, it comprised basic but comfortable bed, hanging space, desk, fully functioning TV with local channels, wash basin and separate WC/shower space. While there was inevitable noise from outside, it wasn't sufficient to disturb sleep

Worse experience in life

I have traveled around the world, first time at Paris, I was not expecting to much because I know it was a low cost hotel. But it was worse than I thought

I had a terrible stay at the hotel, when i checked in the floor was wet, the bathroom was broken, the sheets smelt funny and had holes in them. I complained to the hotel staff and was met with rudness who wanted me to explain what the issue was. I said i wanted a clean room that worked, it was clean and worked but the experienced wrecked the hotel for me. the alleyway the hotel was in had dead rats and pigeons in it. the only good thing was the location. would never stay here again

Quiet hotel located near the Gare de l'est

This hotel is well located near the Gare de l'est. The room was spacious clean and quiet. It is basic accommodation but seems to be well run.

I was looking for a hotel with fair price in s good location, somewhere with private bathroom and near to the city centre. For me that I just wanted to stay at nights to sleep and take a shower it was a good choice. I give 4 of 5 because there was not wifi internet available in this hotel. There was just one plug Receptacles in the room so bring an extension with yourself. Also be aware this hotel has 6 floors and doesn't have a lift. The rest was OK and I recommend it.

Pros: It was close to train and Metro stations
Location: Paris
The hotel is near a big train station, and not a very nice neighborhood. the room wan't very clean. Some of the lights in the room were burned out and the shower hose was leaking,as well other "deferred maintenance" issues. We reported the problems to the staff, and they assured us that they would be fixed...they weren't...thank goodness we were only there for 2 nights!!

Worths the money

Since hotels are expensive in France, this hotel for us is acceptable by paying the low cost. Can't expect much more. The worst thing is the narrow and round-about stair way. If you have large and/or heavy luggages, it will be a challenge to go beyound second floor. Internet access is only available on the first floor. Location is good if you need public transportation, including bus, subway and train. No hair dryer.

great hotel if you are on budget

Great place to stay if you don't want to spend too much. However, don't complain if you don't have hot water in your shower every other morning. But overall great find.
