“Great stay in a great location”

Excellent service, especially from the concierge. Helpful for restaurant recommendations and reservations. Take advantage of the tickets they can sell you for the major museums to get easier access without waiting in long lines to buy tickets. Located in the center of everything, along with the charm of a beautiful property.

“Excellent location in a great Paris neighborhood”

This hotel is located right across from the Louvre. There are many nice cafes within walking distance. We were lucky enough to get a room with a great view of the Eiffel Tower. But even if we hadn't, I would have been satisfied with this hotel. It is in a very elegant building with nicely appointed rooms. They are small but most in Europe are. And who spends a lot of time in the room if you are in Paris! The staff was helpful and courteous. I have only one - and it is minor - complaint. In order to use the Business Center computer you have to get a special card and there is a .65 charge per minute for Internet use. With the amount you pay you would think they wouldn't charge for Internet use. So many run of the mill hotels don't even charge anymore. It seemed odd they do.

“Excellent location, hotel needs updating. Not impressed.”

While this hotel had a wonderful and convenient location I wouldn't recommend this hotel to those looking for luxury and modern updates.

“Uncaring, rude service and tiny rooms”

The good things about this hotel are its location and beautiful lobby/public rooms. That is about it. The reception staff was downright rude at both check-in and check-out. Totally uncaring. At check-out, the lady would not even look at me and kept the change as she claimed not to have small change to return to me! I had to carry all my heavy luggage with me as no porter in sight - that meant going through a revolving door because the reception staff refused to open the regular, non-revolving door with a ramp. I then had to find a taxi myself to go to the airport. All in all, rude service throughout. The hotel was full of Japanese guests and the reception staff was even more rude to them than they were to me. Horrible. This is such a pity for such a beautiful hotel. My room was absolutely tiny, hot (AC not working properly at all) and had an unclean feel to it. I do not recommend this hotel. If you enjoy good service, look elsewhere to avoid disappointment.

“Best Concierge Service”

We had a special family occasion to celebrate and contacted the hotel concierge tprior to our arrival to help us make appropriate plans. Not only did they respond immediately and help with the planning, they provided invaluable service while we were there. But I would recommend approaching the male concierge personal for assistance, as the female we worked with was rather snippy. All in all, however, we were delighted with the service we recieved from this hotel.

Next time we visit Paris, I would prefer to stay near the Latin Quarter. More to see/do and less expensive merchants.

“Not impressed”

It is clear that the hotel has been refurbished but the room I was allotted could have been much better done. Pictures posted for the "classic room" were much better than the real thing. Views compensated a bit, however, for the downside of the room, as well as location.

“Can't beat the location”

I was in Paris on business and decided to have my wife and daughter join me for a few days. We ended up at the Regina because we wanted a hotel with a central location. The Regina is across the street from the Louvre's northeast wing and I was familiar with the neighborhood from previous visits. It is between 2 stops on the metro and within walking distance of Opera Garnier, Les Halles, Pompidou and (obviously) the Louvre. The hotel is older but well maintained. If you like traditional style with creaky wooden floors (we do) then you'll like this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had cocktails in the bar and the bartenders were defintely "old school" (though the drinks themselves required a bit of coin). Paris is one of our favorite cities while we prefer apartments over hotels nothing beats staying in the center of everything.

Area recommendations
We love being in the middle of things. Given our choice we would stay (again) on Ille de la Cite or Ille St.-Louis--the islands in the Seine--but there are not many hotel options as it's such a small area. The Latin Quarter (south of Notre Dame) would be my next choice as it is full of small hotels and bustling with activity. The Rue Cler neighborhood near the Eiffel Tower seems nice but I've never stayed there. Anywhere north of the Louvre is fine. We are also always drawn to Montmartre, on the hill near Sacre Couer, but have yet to stay there.
When to go
Mid-late April in Paris is divine. The weather is warm but not hot yet and the flowering trees are in bloom. You can join the natives for a wine and cheese lunch along the Seine or on the Champs de Mars under the Eiffel Tower. July and August is very hot and beware of hotels with no a/c. We've been in February as well. The crowds are less (though still there) and the weather is gray and sometimes drizzly. If you're okay with that then it's a great time to spend indoors at museums.
Dining
We prefer to rent apartments and cook in. Be sure to visit one of the "marches" (markets) for a glimpse of what grocery shopping in Paris is like. They are scattered around the city and usually quite small so keep your eyes open for cash registers near the front doors. The produce, meat and dairy selections are amazing, as is the average wine list. If you're eating out we can recommend: Auberge de la Reine Blanche and L'Ilot Vache on Ille St-Louis, Montparnasse 1900 near Montparnasse Tower, Les Cocottes (very famous chef!) and Le Petite Bosquet (very simple Moroccan) near Rue Cler, Au Pied de Cochon (a must!) near Les Halles, and Le Cafe du Commerce and Le Buron in the 15th. Of course, 57 Tour Eiffel (in the tower) is a treat. Someday we'll also eat at Le Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower's 2nd level.
Family-friendly activities
We brought our 7-year-old daughter on our most recent trips. You should definitely try to make a puppet show at Luxemborg Gardens (search the web for show times) and there is playground next door. There are carousels at major sites like Montmartre, Eiffel Tower, Hotel de Ville (city hall), and a few others for a quick diversion. Dining can be a challenge if your kids only eat chicken nuggets. Au Pied de Cochon near Les Halles offers a kids menu (Menu Enfant) featuring roast salmon or duck confit (with fries). 57 Tour Eiffel--the lower restaurant at the Eiffel Tower--offers a "menu enfant" as well. Combining a visit to the tower with dinner is a fun activity for the kids and a good way to kill a few hours. If your kids will sit still you can take them to the top of Montmartre and have one of the many artists do a charcoal or pastel portrait--just ask how much it will be before you sit down.
