“Great experience in the heart of Paris!”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Le Sainte Beuve. The decor and rooms was just as cute and quaint as they looked online. Our room was smaller than those by American standards, but we knew it would be like that going in. And the room and bathroom were large enough for us and our belongings to stay comfortably for a week without feeling too cramped our crowed. The hotel was very close to 2 metro stops, which made traveling around the city very easy. The staff were very helpful with any questions we had. I would definitely stay here again!

“Tiny rooms but lovely rooms, great service, good location”

Hotel St. Beauve is a lovely little hotel in a nice, quiet neighborhood -- conveniently close to two metro stops, and walking distance to good restaurants, the Luxembourg gardens, the Bon Marche department store, and the great Eric Kayser boulangerie. The concierge was incredibly helpful and informative -- even calling up museums in advance to find out if tickets were available and how long the lines were. This hotel really makes you feel welcome and secure (a great place for women traveling alone). Be warned though -- the rooms are really, really small (though beautifully decorated), and the toilet (separate from the bath) was in a tiny little closet so small you had to back in sideways in order to close the door. I'd still stay there again, just for the overall comfort, style, service and location.

Area recommendations
I would recommend St. Germain des Pres, because of all the wonderful shops and restaurants, or the Marais, because of its artsy, lively atmosphere. I have also stayed on Ile St. Louis, which is a fantastically convenient location and which has a very nice, village-like feel to it -- but it's hard to find a good hotel there (the Jeu du Paume was NOT). The area around the Luxembourg gardens is also very nice, and convenient if you don't mind riding the metro (which really makes it easy to get around Paris).
Getting around
Don't be afraid to use the metro in Paris -- it will make your visit to the city so much easier! It's relatively simple to figure out the system -- you just need to know the name of the stop near your destination, the number of the metro line it's on, and which direction you are going in (as indicated by the name of the stop at either end of the line). Consult a free metro map, or ask at an information kiosk near the entrance to most stations. Transfers are relatively easy, though at some stations (like Montparnasse) you may have to walk through endless tunnels and up and down numerous stairs to go from one line to another). There is a single charge for each use of the metro, no matter where you are going (it was 1.70 euro as of this writing), and you can buy a ticket from an automated kiosk at the entrance (you can choose the language of the kiosk by spinning a little wheel in front). Note that some kiosks only take credit cards and coins (indicated by icons on the top of the kiosk), whereas others take bills as well. Consider buying a ten-ticket "carnet" if you plan to use the metro more than a couple of times -- you save a bit on price. You can get these from the kiosk as well. Have fun!

“A gem in Montparnasse”

A lovely small hotel in a great neighborhood of Paris! The front desk staff were especially helpful (and fluent in English), giving us directions to local shopping and restaurants. We especially appreciated their warning that the RER train we'd planned to take to the airport would be delayed due to weekend construction--they sent us to the nearby Air France bus which took us straight to the terminal on time. Merci!

Area recommendations
My wife enjoyed shopping for bargains on the nearby Rue d'Alesia.

“It was just okay”

This is a cute hotel in a very quiet part of Paris. It is not close to the "main attractions" such as major museums, Eiffel Tower, main shopping areas, etc. But the subway is close by. We really needed to use taxis to get to many places, which is very expensive. Rooms are very small (as expected in Europe) and the service was fine. Note that there is really no bar or restaurant. Breakfast is served in the lobby with insufficient seating for everyone -- leaving some to eat on a sofa and cocktail table. The front desk was helpful when we ask for assistance in getting places, but was not tremdously familiar with restaurants, tourist sites, etc.

“Great hotel and service”

Our stay at the Le Sainte Beuve was very enjoyable and extraordinary. It is in a very central location, close to access to the metro and good restaurants. The hotel is very quaint and comfortable. The service, particularly the person who greeted us when we checked in(Nicolas) really added to our first visit to Paris. He gave us many tips on site seeing and was very generous with his time. We would definitely recomend this hotel and on our next trip to Paris would stay at the Le Sainte Beuve.

We stayed in a superior Twin and it was lovely. -not much of a view but who cares your in Paris! Go out and explore. Large room w a big bathroom for paris standards. Great large windows opening to a mini terrace standing area. Clean, pretty sophisticated Lobby w a teeny tiny elevator. Close to the park and all the other attractions.

“Nice”

The hotel is very comfortable and accommodating. It's in a fairly relaxed area of town. The only downside is that it's a bit off the beaten path if your objective is to visit the tourist areas. You've got maybe a mile walk to get to that heart of that.

“Very nice quiet hotel”

This is a very nice intimate hotel on a quiet street. It is good for couples, and people who want a good centrally located hotel but that is in a quiet neighborhood. The service was excellent and the staff speaks excellent English. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Traveler's tip
This hotel is next to the Luxembourg Gardens and only a 15-20 minute walk from Notre Dame.
