“Not 4 stars, but 3 excellent stars. Staff was great, very clean, just not quite what was expected.”

We had a lovely stay in The Savoy. Very clean with very friendly staff. It had all of the basics, including a nice breakfast buffet. But it was very basic. The decor had a weird sort of modern chic, maybe trying to be retro, but it was done in white plastic and white fiber board. Five minutes from the train station, and 15 minutes walking to the downtown Duomo.

Area recommendations
Parma has a lovely romanesque downtown. We visited the Duomo and spent hours in the Nationale Art Museum. Both are the in the historic downtown, just minutes from the Centro District where the Savoy is located.

“Savoy Good Choice in Parma, Italy”

For simple lodgings in a convenient location in Parma, it would be hard to beat the Savoy. In easy walking distance from the train station and is also on the edge of the historic section of the city. I had a car and was able to park on the street near the entrance of the hotel, but I might have been a bit lucky in finding the spot. The hotel provided a parking permit for the street at a modest charge. My room was small without much space to lounge, but I was not in the city to spend much time in the hotel. The bed, pillow and bedding were typical of Italy. The fixtures in the bathroom were modern and clean. There was a small safe in the room provided for no additional charge. The staff was helpful and made good recommendations on dining. Overall I had a great experience for the price. Parma is certainly worth the visit for its church architecture, its food and the lively and safe street life in the evening.

Area recommendations
It is important to visit the cathedral (duomo) and its free-standing baptistry. Both are incredible examples of late romanesque architecture and art. While the interior of the cathedral church was redecorated at a later period, the facade remains intact. There are also some remnants of the earlier period inside the church that are worth seeing. I visited the city in late June. The streets came to life around 8:00 p.m. with locals and visitors of all ages. The entire historic center of the city was designated as a pedestrian zone and It was good simply to walk around and be part of this carnival like atmosphere.

“Modern, efficient, perfectly nice”

It's 3 - not 4 - stars, though, as expedia advertises. Totally renovated, perfectly nice, could use a carpet to warm things up, great for a one-night visit.
