Welcoming rural retreat

Posted Aug 22, 2014
I took my 11 year old son for an overnight trip to France and booked into the Chateau as it was only 30 mins from Calais. Overall it was a pleasing one night stay and the staff were very welcoming. We made use of the swimming pool and tennis court and cycled around the grounds and nearby lanes. A very peaceful location with peacocks roaming free, a bird aviary and a lake. Breakfast was enjoyable, if a little expensive. The Chateau was an impressive place to stay and very quiet considering it was the school summer holidays. I would consider returning to this hotel in the future.

Good location

The hotel is a good mix of old and new. Staff very polite. Our room needed a bit more TLC as bathroom required some new grouting mastic and tiles. It did not have a shower curtain resulting in a bit of a flood. The bed was a bit too close to the wall for conventional access and the ceiling cobwebs could do with coming down. We only had breakfast which was a buffet job with overdone scrambled eggs but surprisingly good bacon. The rest of the menu was very good. Overall would stay again but would go for a bigger room.

An excellent Hotel. Efficient service, lovely area, high standard of cleanliness. The food whilst quite expensive is of a very high standard and well worth the money

Pros: Its a reasonable hotel for a one night stop over .
Cons: The restaurants limited menu looks good and is well presented, but the quality and flavor is poor.
Before the change of ownership the food at this hotel was very good. Now its very poor and not to be recommended. A deluxe room comes with one tea bag and one sugar lump per head and one small bottle of water between two!

Lovely property close to Eurotunnel

Posted Apr 12, 2014
Pros: Grounds, spacious rooms in the new block.
Check in was smooth and courteous, the room in the new wing spacious and well equipped: kettle, iron, coffee, all the useful amenities typically missing from the five star properties in France. The view to the woods and ponds, complete with balcony, was outstanding. Dinner was nice, not of Michelin class but neither was the cost. Parking easy and close to the accommodation, great place for kids as rabbits enjoy the pasture, horses are at the fence and a pair of beautiful peacocks stroll around the chateau. Only minor irritation was being automatically charged for two breakfasts when one of us had gone to get gas and skipped it. Reception called the restaurant to check I was not lying! This property provided great value for money, perhaps because we booked late, but in any event it is an excellent base for a couple of days to see the local sights: don't miss the V1/V2 rocket launching site, a stark but fascinating reminder of the terror of WW2.
