Excellent family run hotelPosted Jul 4, 2014
Pros: Comfortable, good location, friendly, very clean.
Cons: The only bugbear with the hotel was that I wish Greek hotels would invest in mosquito screens. Not only this hotel - a general problem!
Location: Grikos and Petra and Psili Ammos - all good beaches, all different. Hora is a must see, and St John's cave. Skala is fun with nice shops and bars.
We had a great time at the Joanna Hotel. It was exactly what we were looking for: a quiet retreat from our hectic lives that enabled us to be independent. Like many small hotels in Greece, it came equipped with a small kitchenette, allowing us to cook throughout our stay - when they realised we were cooking, washing up liquid, a sponge and a tea towel appeared. It was a large room with a balcony - no sea view, but very quiet. Comfortable bed, and kept immaculate every day. Theologos was very helpful with suggestions on places to see (my husband particularly loved Psili Ammos beach, less than an hour's walk away) and helped with practical things like car rental, and was happy to chat as well. Grikos is obviously a growing resort now with a large expensive hotel on the town beach - we prefer a less developed location usually, but it only took ten minutes to reach quieter beaches by foot, and the town beach was nice for swimming. Several good restaurants - we particularly liked Ktima Petra, who grow their own veg. Only complaint - no shop in the village! We didn't have a car the whole time, so shopping was a pain, esp. as the water isn't drinkable. This didn't detract from the hotel, which we loved.

This hotel was clean and quiet. It is quite a walk from Skala, but doable. The nature trails are nice.

This is a perfect place to relax, do some touring, water sports and meet very pleasant people from around the world. From the moment I arrived and opened the door to my room I knew I was in the right place. It is impeccably clean, the owner is a first class man, the breakfasts were filling and good and it is literally a two minute walk to the beach and tavernas. The beaches are lovely, numerous & not crowded. In addition it is easy to get the bus to the main port and to the Monastery and Cave of the Apocalypse. I hope to return here again! Enjoy your stay!
