The hotel is very nice -but- not great value for the dollar. It's a neat old two story building. I'm glad the building has been saved & restored. My room was Hugh, and very nicely decorated. The bathroom was large, with the shower & tub in its own room. The soaking tub was made of beautiful hardwood. Being from North America, we don't often see tubs like that. I enjoyed most of the beautiful art work spread thru out the hotel. Someone has good taste. The breakfast was enjoyable in the cute adjoining restaurant. I spent 3 days on the ground floor, never hearing footsteps or noise from above. I found any & all hotel employees to be helpful & courteous . To me it was obvious they wanted to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

LovelyPosted Jul 31, 2013
Cons: Don't expect breakfast to be served promptly at the time the dining room opens (in case you are in a hurry to catch a plane, train or bus...)
Everything about it was great. Beautiful building, luxurious rooms, delicious food, friendly staff.

Lots of characterPosted Jun 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
I stayed at the straits eclectic room 4. Spacious, nice decor and a large bathroom was wonderful. Crabtree and evelyn toiletries was a nice touch. Staffs were friendly and accomodative. Besides breakfast, the complimentary high tea and all day complimentary beverages makes this stay a little different from other hotels i've stayed.

The Best Hotel in PenangPosted Jun 9, 2013
Pros: The staff. The food. The ambience. The shower (rainfall). The soaps and shampoo (high quality Crabtree and Evelyn). The amenities in the room.
Location: In the heart of the city on a beautiful street called Love Lane.
I'm in love with this hotel. The staff, the charm, the style, the little touches. Our first day in Penang we didn't even leave to explore the city. The hotel was too lovely to leave! And the quality of the food you receive for breakfast and tea time was simply amazing. All of that and it's in the heart of the city in a beautifully restored colonial mansion! The staff is so welcoming. They took me around and explained the history of where the stables used to be and the shopkeepers quarters. Ah. Just writing this makes me want to go back. Right now.
