NIce Heritage HotelPosted Oct 5, 2013
Pros: the heritage decoration is very beautiful and you can feel like being transferred back in time. The hotel staff is happily helping with any request
Cons: the breakfast is quite average taking into consideration that Penang is a food paradise
Location: perfect location to explore Georgetown on foot as well just minutes away from the famous street food venues
Very nice heritage and relaxing place in the heart of Georgetown

Lovely heritage hotel with garden and poolPosted Jul 27, 2013
I was a bit surprised when I checked in late at night - the entrance looks a little bit like any other Asian hotel desk, not the boutique hotel I was expecting. But when I saw the hotel during the day its charm and beauty was clear. A lap pool and lovely garden, friendly staff and a huge complementary breakfast. Location is a few blocks away from the heart of George Town so it's not totally in the thick of it, but Penang is such a great city to wander around I loved the walk.

excellent refurbishmentPosted Mar 31, 2013 on Hotels.com
hotel has gone hrough a large refurbishment in past few years. Rooms great. This is more of a boutique hotel without a real pool or exercise room. There is a small bar area for later night. Surrounding area is also under transformation as well. You can walk to downtown area, but not very close and traffic makes walk challenging. Others stated breakfast poor, but had no such experience. Would recommend.

Old Georgetown with a modern tweak!Posted Nov 5, 2012
Pros: Great ambience. Friendly staff.
Cons: No gym
Location: Good location for walking around the old parts of town.
My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights, 2 rooms, both fantastic. The hotel is very interesting and beautifully renovated. There are some compromises when staying in a small hotel (eg no gym) but the feel of the place was very pleasant and the staff very helpful. The developer has done an excellent job to give us modern facilities while retaining the historical ambience of the building. The location is great for walking around the old town and we had a reserved car park right out front. It is wonderful to see people taking the time and risk to redevelop the old part of town rather than just bulldoze it all; lets hope it continues. Penang is a very pleasant city to visit and to stay here, rather than a modern hotel in Batu Ferrenghi as I had done last trip, was more enjoyable for me. I would recommend this hotel to adults; not so sure about families with young children!

Delightful ambiencePosted Sep 4, 2012 on Hotels.com
This was our second visit to the Penaga Hotel. We brought friends with us this time as we knew they would enjoy it as much as we did. Beautiful decor, impeccably clean, delightful service from all staff, and great breakfast in the restaurant. The courtyard area was a little green oasis in the middle of the city. Very conveniently located in George Town for an historic walk or shopping.
Stylish hotel, friendly staffPosted Aug 6, 2012 on Hotels.com
room was stylish yet practical. I particularly liked the electric blue sofa, the lamps and the comfortable chair. Power points were conveniently located too so no problem charging phone and camera batteries at the same time. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Penaga Hotel Penang - a Chinese gemPosted Dec 1, 2011 on Hotels.com
Boutique hotel with an exquisite little garden within walking distance of historic centre of Georgetown. Spacious and comfortable rooms. Kind and attentive staff. Free internet and substantial library. Good breakfast included. Don't eat in the restaurant otherwise - limited choice and slow service - but there's so much good food within easy reach you don't need to.

A very relaxing sojournPosted Aug 25, 2011 on Hotels.com
Hits at the beautifully restored Hotel Penaga in Penang: - heritage rooms with gorgeous furniture pieces and utterly beautiful timber strips underfoot! - generous servings of a la carte breakfasts which came with hotel booking were prepared with requested for extras at no charge; beautifully prepared and graciously served too. - hotel boasts wonderful art pieces show-casing Malaysia's talent and creativity besides historical points of interests - bathroom jacuzzi filled up fast so water temperature could be maintained, and it drained fast too! Utterly relaxing! Separate standing shower with multiple nozzles and rain-shower worked brilliantly. Hand-held nozzle available too if you don't want your hair wet. - Bed and 4 pillows were all very comfortable. Light switches all conveniently located. - complimentary mini-bar and drinking water and coffee and tea as well as free wi-fi - hotel gift shop not to be missed! Misses: - We booked a Hutton room without balcony but hotel offered as Rm 20 which came with balcony. This was a beautiful room but it faced the front so we accepted Rm 29 which faced the back. Upside: it was quiet in the day but we had noise at night as this room is at a corner so side windows faced a 24-hr coffeeshop - which would have been quiet in Penang largely, except that we were there during the fasting month, so there was more activity than usual. - Bed in room faced a stained glass window which meant when the sun was up, so were we! No need for morning calls! *chuckle* - Hotel location not quite in hub of things but it is just one short block from the start of Lebuh Campbell, one of the main walking streets. Also, the free area shuttle makes up for it.
