Fantastic hotel in a lovely locationPosted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: I liked everything! It is one of the best hotels that I have stayed in, anywhere. Little touches, like the spare box of tissues in the bathroom.
Cons: This is being ultra-picky - but the WiFi reception was a bit variable. Couldn't use Skype in my room, but bandwidth was better in the lobby.
Location: Batu Ferringhi is a quiet beach resort. Some watersports are available. Convenient for Butterfly Farm and Tropical Spice Garden (bus 101 goes to both)
I was on a business trip to Penang, and decided to stay at the Lone Pine for a long weekend's relaxation. This was a very good decision! I knew it was going to be good from the moment I arrived. The reception staff greeted me warmly, and had all my details ready on a little clipboard. They asked me to sit down at the desk, and another member of t=staff brought me a glass of fresh tropical fruit juice. Fantastic introduction! The hotel was everything I hoped it would be, and more. The buildings themselves have a nice "colonial" feel to them (though I gather the hotel was originally built in the 1940s/50s. A recent refurbishment has been done in a very sympathetic way. My room was very well appointed, with a high ceiling and a very efficient fan, as well as air-con. The balcony had a deep bath built-in. The surroundings of the hotel are really lovely. There are extensive gardens, with ancient trees, some of which have hammocks strung between them. Loungers are scattered throughout the grounds, so you can always find a quiet spot. There is also a large swimming pool, with more loungers and tables around the it. The main restaurant, "The Bungalow", is right next to the beach. The extensive breakfast buffet is served there. On the Saturday of my arrival I opted to have dinner there too. This was a "Wine and Dine" buffet, which was very good. The best thing about the hotel is the staff! Every one of them would greet me with a smile and a "hello sir", so I felt really welcome.

Quiet getawayPosted Jul 3, 2014
The best relaxing breakfast, good food, attentive and smiling staff, good hawker food nearby for lunch and dinners, wonderful pool, free shuttle to Straits Quay and E & O in Georgetown, excellent Japanese restaurant, extensive room service menu available all hours, useful gym. Free soft drinks and fruit daily but if you have the 'do not disturb' sign on, then you will miss out. If noise from upstairs might annoy you, then ask to stay on the top (3rd) floor, but we like the 2nd floor. If the noise really bothers you, then ring the front desk and security will have a quiet word.

Quaint yet elegantPosted Jul 3, 2014
Pros: Rooms and pool... old Colonial feel, peaceful & well maintained premises.
Cons: The food... & reception staff can be warmer and more welcoming.
Location: Good location near lots of eating places of different choices, night market good for walking off dinner, beach/beach activities footsteps away only.
Lone Pine is as depicted in the photos - wonderful old Colonial feel, elegant, wide open spaces with natural ventilation, peaceful. Rooms are spacious & simply but elegantly decorated, free beach slippers are a nice touch, views are good, hammocks in garden very welcomed, 2 lovely pools which my kids enjoyed immensely, adequate service (other than the staff at the reception, the other staff - especially the porters & waiters - were very helpful and friendly... that said, we are very grateful for the change in room the front desk staff made for us willingly, when our first room became noisy due to the neighbours).

Nice boutique hotelPosted May 24, 2014
Pros: Location of the hotel is great... breakfast spread is impressive
Location: The location is great with beach on one side and a lively market on the other side for street shopping and/or enjoying local street food .
Very nice boutique hotel... on the Ferringhi beach... Unfortunately, had planned just a day in Penang ..however, the facilities are great and staff is very helpful. We had landed way before the check-in time and the hotel staff was accommodating to give us a room Planning to come back to Penang in six months or so and would definitely consider staying in the above hotel...

Good location and convenient hotelPosted May 14, 2014
Pros: Small size, convenient parking, facilities all close by
Cons: See above
Location: See above
Lone Pine for a relatively small, privately owned hotel is in good condition and facilities are all close by without having to walk long distances. Internet connections in the rooms vary in strength and staff could be more attentive, although once asked, they respond but it would be better if they were proactive.

Nice hotel on the beach and very well located.Posted May 13, 2014
Rooms were spacious and neat. Location of the hotel is great. On the beach and near the night bazaar and hawkers market at Ferranghi. Food and spa prices highly priced. But overall a well maintained hotel.

Not so special afterallPosted May 6, 2014
Pros: the room layout
Cons: clealiness, friendly staff and cooler lobby and restaurant
Location: fantastic location, night market right in front of the hotel and plenty of shops around
Staff not very welcoming, except for the guy from front desk. No greeting nor acknowledgement that you walk passed them. Bathroom certainly not the cleanest i have seen, dust on the mirror and lots of prints on the mirror behind the door, also hair near to the toilet seat. Was told free soft drinks from the mini bar but there ain't anything in the fridge. No evening turn down service for us where i can hear the housekeeping asking my neighbour if she required the service. Main door has got a huge gap that the music from the nearby are can easily be heard and continue until early morning. Breakfast just so so, with lots of house fly flying around.
