Caution for independant travelers

Posted Apr 10, 2014
Pros: beautiful grounds and friendly staff
Cons: Independant travelers should be warned about large groups or they should situate us in rooms that won't be as affected.
This hotels caters to large groups and for 3 days the closest pool to us was closed to all but members of a conference and we had to go to a further larger pool which was more crowded. After this group left we were able to access the closer pool which was a lot better for us. The next group that came in were much bigger cocktail people and the bar at the hotel was so packed I don't even know how the waitress were able to cope or move, we had to go off property to get a drink, which means we had to drive so drinking was almost not worth it.

Not good for families with teens

Posted Apr 6, 2014
Pros: beautiful property, great restaurants, great concierge and pool staff.
Cons: Front desk should attempt to give the best accommodation possible. If they can't, explain why they have to banish guests to the outermost periphery!
Location: Kind of far from airport. Hiking 10 minutes away, shopping and lunch spots 10 minutes away, New Serenity Spa 5 minutes way which is cheap and cheerful
Thanks to the Expedia deal, we were relegated to a second-class citizen dwelling - a room with NO view (actually, we faced the parking lot. I guess somebody has to!), literally at the edge of the property, when the hotel wasn't even crowded. The front desk was not particularly warm or welcoming and obviously not generous about offering nicer rooms to us Expedia travelers. The concierge was super nice and helpful. The pool staff was equally wonderful and hard-working. The worst was probably the spa people who were completely unhelpful. I was vacationing with a teen daughter. It was our yoga/spa getaway. We got to the spa, only to find out minimum age was 18 to participate in any of the yoga/gym activities. REALLY?! This info was not readily advertised in the website. Had I known, I would not have booked it. The receptionist was completely unapologetic and didn't even offer to help us find alternatives. Basically our vacation plans were completely ruined as this was a mother/daughter getaway and the only thing my daughter could do was a mani/pedi (done already before trip) or a facial (where I had to sit in the room for 90 minutes while she got a facial). So ridiculous. Anywhere else, you could probably sign a waiver and have your teen do most anything. NOT here at the Fairmont. But the redeeming factors: great pools (5!) and staff, helpful concierge, and great restaurants and staff.

Overall very nice hotel.

This was my fourth stay and I was disappointed to see they have removed all the cushions from the pool area sun chairs. The chairs were hard and uncomfortable, not something I would expect for the Fairmont. I hope this will change so that the pool experience can once again feel like a resort rather than a pool that could be anywhere.

Spring break retreat

Posted Mar 27, 2014
Wonderful family retreat for rest and relaxation. My husband and I stayed here 5 years ago in the fall and we enjoyed this stay even more. We spent time at the spa..... it is the best spa experience. love the water massage wall and roof top pool. My husband and daughter loved playing the Stadium course but The Champions golf course greens were in terrible shape. The choice of pools provided us different options based on or mood and we were charmed by the well placed conversation seating arrangements through out the resort! Expensive...yes....but a wonderful time spent with family ... we will stay again.

Fantastic property, beautiful pools and gardens

Posted Mar 25, 2014
Pros: The pools and the availability of designated lane swimming.
Location: We took advantage of the many sporting events available during our stay (spring training baseball - often able to take in two games in a day)
Relaxing and comfortable. Glorious weather and facilities combined to make the holiday exceptional. Spring training games, hockey and basketball games were all within a reasonable distance from the hotel. Resort staff were friendly and helpful, always gracious and available.

The TV was broken for 2 days. VERY Expensive. Golf was ridiculous expensive and the greens were unprofessional. It's old school.

Way Too NOISY

Posted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: The Spa was very nice
Cons: The tile surrounding the rooms is an offset tile which makes things very loud when they are rolled over it. I would grout the tile to a smooth finish.
Location: Lots of cool places to eat and shop
This hotel looked nice when we arrived and the staff for the most part were pleasant. Once in our room near the lagoon we kept hearing carts go back and forth near the room. We would be woken up at 5 in the morning from all the noise. This cart noise went on all day and night. Also my room service for breakfast was so cold we could barely eat it. The last thing that disheartened me was the pool service. Very slow and inattentive.
