“Good hotel, good price”

This hotel was not excellent, but I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel. I was expecting a solid holiday-inn type hotel, and that's what I got. I think the rooms and furniture (especially in the halls) are showing some signs of wear; it might be time for a little updating. The lobby is spacious and attractive with comfortable furniture. The rooms were big, bathrooms big, beds comfortable. Everything smelled nice and there was no lingering cigarette or pet smells, like in some hotels. Hot water was plentiful and water pressure was good. So I totally got what I expected, and for a good rate. Great location right off the highway. Walgreens and some restaurants within walking distance. OH, also, the pool and hot tub are VERY nice. Very helpful, friendly staff.

“Definitely one of the best values in Mesa”

I've staying in mesa for about three weeks now in four different hotels. Centrally located--this unpretentious hotel delivers big time. Very clean==all public areas are impecabley maintained. Rooms are confortable--channel listing is excellent and so is the wireless Internet. This is in my opinion-- one of the best hotel values in Mesa.

“Bed BUGs in our room & they sent up a security person to inexpect. Security guard no knowledge”

“phx holiday inn 3-07-2011”

Good place to stay, got the mixed bag deal. Where you do not know where the place is but they have a 3 star hotel for less than advertised. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Got a 20% off food purchase and a free drink at the bar. Very comfortable place and easy on off highway access. Would stay again.

“Room was good but hotel needs better technology”

The room was fine and check in process was smooth. Unfortunately the TV remote did not work. I had to call twice for a replacement and it ended up not fixing the problem so I needed to change rooms. WiFi service was available but connection dropped repeatedly and speed was terrible. As this was a business trip, the poor WiFi connection killed my productivity. Make sure you have you Broadband Access and do not rely on the hotel's WiFi and this is a great place to stay.

“Mostly good, what you'd expect”

was visiting my fiance in Phoenix for a weekend (I work out of town). The room itself was fine, the only issues were that the faucet in the shower/tub was leaky (which I kept forgetting to mention to the front desk until when I checked out, so I don't know how quickly they would have fixed it), and the heater was a bit sensitive, so it wound up a bit stuffy after we turned the heat on. But otherwise it was fine, about what you'd expect from a newer Holliday Inn.

Area recommendations
If by "this city" you mean Mesa, I guess I'd recommend anywhere but certain parts of Main Street. If by "this city" you mean the Valley as a whole, then I'd recommend Scottsdale or Tempe for more tourist-y stuff.
Getting around
Car rentals are insanely expensive in AZ, mostly because they fund all of their new stadiums with rental car taxes. Expect to pay more in taxes than you do for the car itself.
Dining
A few of my favorites (mostly around Tempe and ASU): Chuckbox, Tempe, across from ASU--best burgers anywhere, get a Big Juan! Cash only, btw. Ted's Hot Dogs, Tempe, McClintock and Broadway--small Buffalo, NY-based chain, great dogs, made perfectly. Chompie's Deli, Tempe/Scottsdale/Phoenix--Featured on Man vs Food, kosher-style deli with GIANT sandwiches that you'll have to plot a course of attack for. I haven't yet tried the Slider Challenge the Adam Richman did on the show. Don & Charlie's, Scottsdale, Miller & Camelback--Chicago-style steakhouse, popular with Spring Training fans and players, delicious prime rib in just about any size you want. All sorts of baseball memorabilia (signed balls, bats, photos, etc) everywhere.

“Improvement needed”

Room needed updated. carpet dirty. Looked like maintance being done to outside. Went to breakfast at hotel, waitede 5 mins before someone even spoke to us. Then was told it was a long time to get served if we wanted to wait. We left and never tried to eat at hotel again
