Transported back to the 60's

Posted May 1, 2015
When we arrived at Valley Ho we thought we'd been transported to the set of the Jetsons! This is definitely a must stay location with an amazing restoration true to its era but with all modern conveniences. The food was also great and service super friendly - we'll be back.

Not what I expected

Posted Apr 27, 2015
Pros: Proximity to old town
Cons: I get the retro theme that they were going for, but I don't think the rooms had to be so stark in terms of furnishings. It is way over-priced.
Location: Easy walk thru Arts area of Old Town. Tons of shops, eateries etc.
From start to finish, this just wasn't the place that I expected. I upgraded to a suite and it was disappointing. There was major construction going on directly outside, which I think they should disclose to people upfront. It was impossible to regulate the temperature in the room. The retro theme was interesting, but for $400 a night I expected more luxury. The pool is quite small. It is very convenient to old town and the arts area though, so you can leave your car and walk. It wasn't terrible, but it clearly was not a value either. We didn't bring the kids, and I'm glad because this was more of an adult place.

Love this place! Very cool mid-century vibe

Posted Apr 24, 2015
Cons: The staff was indifferent or annoyed to be doing their jobs a few times. This might just be that it was a Sunday but it still was our only smudge.
This place feels like someplace a 50's movie star would have hidden out at. Has a Palm Springs feel somehow in the middle of the city. The pool is a place to see and be seen, great pool bar drink specials. the rooms are sheik and retro in a great way. Notes: -The room patio's do not open to the pool (the way they show it in the pics it seemed like it did to me) so be aware they face out to the street/parking lot. -This is not a place for kids. Leave them at home or go to someplace with a float river cause this is a quiet splash free pool for sunbathing and drinking.

Beautiful, fun hotel

Posted Apr 4, 2015
Location: The location was great. It was near downtown and Old Towne.
We absolutely loved this hotel. The current owners did a fabulous job of renovating the hotel while maintaining the 1950s decor and theme. Our room was large and very comfortable. I loved the tray with the martini shaker, martini glass and bottles of booze. The turquoise wall added to the 50s kitsch. And the bathroom with the deep bathtub, mood lighting, separate shower and bowl sink was gorgeous. The pool was great, although on the Sunday we were there it was very noisy and full of young party goers. We 50 and 60ish people felt out of place. We probably would have been more comfortable lounging at the lap pool. We also enjoyed the food at the Zsu Zsu Cafe. The only negative about our stay was the inconsistent and mostly uninterested service from the staff. Some of the front desk people acted as if we were a bother. Another didn't seem very informed. And, we were anticipating taking the tour of the hotel only to find out the tour guide was not available on either a Sunday or Monday. Strange. The service in the Cafe was also inconsistent. Not terribly friendly or attentive. If the hotel improves their customer service it will be a perfect hotel. If they

Thank you for staying with us! I’m sorry if our service was not up to par. We pride ourselves on receiving high remarks for our guest service on average. Many of our staff have been here since the hotel reopened in 2005. Unfortunately it sounds like we missed the mark, which I do apologize for. The 90-minute tour of the hotel is by appointment, based on the tour guide’s availability. Unfortunately there isn’t demand to have the tour at a set time every day; I’m sorry you weren’t able to experience it while you were here. We appreciate your feedback and would love the opportunity to wow you the next time you are in Scottsdale.

60's Swanky hotel walkable to Old Town Scottsdale

Posted Apr 1, 2015
Location: Cowboy Chao is an awesome restaurant - have to try their Stetson Salad. Arcadia farms was awesome and relaxed for brunch. Hiking is a must
Hotel is really well ran and perfect location. It has a 50/60's Sinatra in las vegas but modernized feel. The staff was extremely friendly - they have tons of info at the concierge desk to help you with your exploration of the area. Pool area is awesome for lounging and drinks and has a good energy vibe. I highly recommend for couples, girls/guys getaways. You can walk to a ton of restaurants and shopping in old town scottsdale. It's just 10 minutes to multiple hiking trails/parks. I would definitely return!

Enjoyed it more than I thought!

Posted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: Walkability. Spacious rooms.
Cons: Better drinks in bar. Expensive and not the best margarita I've ever had....should be for the price.
Location: Could not be better. More information on that should be available and convenient.
The hotel didn't appear to be what I'd like with all the 50's/60's style but it's well done and handled with quality which is not common these days in say Florida...very walkable to Scottsdale shops, resturants. Two pools one where you can "see and be seen" the other more quiet and relaxing. Nice bar resturant. Rooms are spacious with nice balconies/patio. Recommend it highly.

Mid century Modern Meets WiFi

Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: The general restoration.
Cons: Read above!
Location: "It's Scottdale"... Duh.
The Staff and the general upkeep as well as the amenities were swell. The near center of room free standing tub was a blast! The Four Stars v. Five Star possibility is simply to acknowledge that this like other (flakie) hotels should not offer multi-tier (read: additional pay to play) wifi in an era of much higher speed LTE, let alone now average home wifi speeds, and think "that's okay". It's not. It's lazy and poor customer service. Otherwise lots of fun.

I’m glad you enjoyed your stay! We upgraded our Internet network at a significant cost to accommodate higher speeds and multiple devices per guest. The basic speed is available complimentary, with higher speeds available for a fee. We also offer computers with Internet access for complimentary use in the business center, available 24 hours. Unlike many resorts in town, we do not charge a resort fee, which means that you only pay for what you choose to use. We appreciate your feedback, thank you!
