“W Scottsdale”
Great location, comfortable rooms & super cool pool
“Hip place to stay.”
good people watching, great vibe, and the pool with it's 'porthole' views down to lower level is awesome.
“The stepdad of boutique hotels, tries a little to hard to be "hip"”
Like all other W's, this one is determined to make you feel that you just barely made the cut. The problem is, unless you're a Teenager or possibly, a German tourist, it's impossible to overlook the gaping holes in the hotel's "jet set" facade. Even if you're willingly trying to delude yourself, many of the Scottsdale W's pretensions come off as comical and a little sad. For example--when I first arrived in my ikea-sleek room, my nose was assailed by a blast of stench that seemed to be comprised of two parts Febreeze and one part stale cigarettes. So the first thing I did was pick up the phone to call the front desk, hoping to be transferred to a nonsmoking room. Unfortunately the phone directory gave no indication of how to reach the front desk, since all the instant dial buttons were labled with cryptic "hip" slogans like "what and when?" "where?" and "wish list". I'm sure I could have figured this mystery menu out if I'd bothered to stop and think about it, but frankly, I just didn't want to bother so I just mashed the first button and asked for the front desk. Once I got ahold of the girl that had checked me in, I told her about the smoke. Imagine my surprise when she told me I wasn't actually in a smoking room and e smell was the W's signature scent, which, get this, "about half of our guests mistake for stale cigarettes while the other half adore it!". The big draw is he pool deck--filled with credit millionaires. A lot of of fun if you can overlook the silicone
“If looking to party, this place is for you. If not, go elsewhere”
Typical W set-up in excellent location. Expected party atmosphere, but this was over the top. Had to call security both nights for music blaring late at night. Rooms were packed with 20-somethings getting stupid drunk-not my scene at this point in my life. Whatever-whenever service sub-optimal, as more than once, "whenever" never occurred. Finally, the attitude of the bouncers was irritating-acted way too cool.
“Surprisingly low standards as far as W Service”
I've stayed at many W hotels across the US and this was by far the horrible when it comes to service. The waiting staff was horrendous. We came to Scottsdale for a summer getaway and pretty much had to get everything ourselves. The Pool/Lobby staff was clueless and had no idea where anything was. It's 106 degrees in the desert, so clearly most of our time was spent at the pool and the lobby bar. SPG Team- Please educate your employees before sending them out on the floor. Also, there's no sense of urgency to assist any guests staying at the hotel. The Valet/Bell staff was great, the concierge and Check-In desk seemed pleasant and knowledgeable, unfortunately we couldn't go to them for food/drinks which is what we enjoy the most when on vacation. Great place and location but horrible service overall. Not pleased at all.
“Convenient, Clean, Fun...”
We stayed at The W in Scottsdale for my birthday weekend because we wanted an experience similar to Vegas, without the hassle of Vegas. The W Hotel was perfect. The rooms are gorgeous and the pool is quite the scene. There is a DJ at the pool who plays the best music. The pool chairs are comfortable and the pool food is really good. The Hotel is right where you want to be with the best bars/restaurants within walking distance! The only downside of our stay is that either Expedia or The W messed up our reservation and we were given a King bed for 3 girls. We were told it was against policy to put a cot in the smaller rooms. After arguing with the girl at the front, we were finally introduced to Lucas (who became our savior). He gave us an extra room the first night and then moved us to an upgraded suite the second night. We can't thank him enough. If it weren't for him our entire trip would have been ruined. We also met two of the coolest security guards on our way back to our room one night. One of them (Guy) found out it was my birthday and sent up a bottle of champagne and strawberries to our room. We never ran into him again, but we were so thankful for that special treat. Unfortunately, the rest of the service at the hotel wasn't that great. It almost seemed like it was everyone's first day and no one knew what was going on. However, it didn't bother us because of how great Lucas, Guy, our amazing room, and the fun pool was. I will definitely return!
“Great pool party, mediocre rooms!”
Great Pool and great location! However, it does turn into a zoo at night when the club opens up, security is really rude even if your a guest. Rooms are tiny and over-priced!
“Nice hotel & Great Location”
We came down here on the weekend to visit Arizona. The location is great because it's within blocks of all the bars and restaurants in Scottsdale. The hotel is really clean and modern. Our room was a good size and had a small outdoor patio. The pool is a great place to hang out during the day. They offer drink service and food. They offer a lot of mixed drinks in the pitchers but they are full of ice and finish very quickly. The tab can get quite expensive before you know it. They try to make it like the Vegas pool party but it's not quite there but still nice. Make sure you bring our own bottled water to the hotel. A bottle of water in the room cost $8. Don't quite understand why the charge so much. We just ended up getting water from the market to take back to the room. Avoid Sushi Roku in the W hotel. The place looks nice and they have all of these fancy descriptions and what not. But the sushi is not that good at all. For the price your paying you might as well go down the block to Mastro's Steak house and get some real good food. The pool is not open 24/7 as claimed. On Saturday night the pool area turns into to a lounge scene and you must have a dress shirt to get in. So make sure you pack a dress shirt if your visiting out of town.
“overpriced”
poor value
“A Pleasant Experience...”
Nice hotel with very friendly staff. Shopping mall and many good places to eat are within walking distances. The Free Acura service was very convenient and they even extended there range to accomodate our request. A special thank you to Nick who was very helpful and friendly. Definately a hotel for the upper class but being middle class my girlfriend and I never felt uncomfortable. We expected the hotel room to be a big larger but the bed was very comfortable. The pool is a great place to people watch and a good cooldown from the hot sun. Overall a pleasant experience
