There's so much more to Norrbotten than Pitea, so be sure to discover the region's cultural and natural attractions. Alvik and Byske are two more places worth checking out while you're in Norrbotten.
Around 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the northeast of Pitea is Lulea, a regional center where you can explore Gammelstad Church, Lulea University of Technology and Friluftsmuset Hagnan. Lulea Cathedral, Kulturens Hus and Lulea Golf Club are also worth calling into while you are here.
This region is known for its fine traditional villages; these are wonderful windows into the region's rich past.
There are heaps of high-adrenaline adventures to be savoured in the area around Norrbotten. Head out and go snowmobiling or ice skating to get your heart rate up.
Taking the time to understand some words Swedish separates the enlightened travelers from the tourists. "Vill du dansa med mig?" means "Would you like to dance with me?" And, for "Where are you from?", you can practice the phrase "Varifrån kommer du?" Why don't you give it a spin!
Much of Sweden celebrates Swedish Flag Day on the 6th of June, so be prepared for changes to opening hours and increased demand for transport.
At the end of your time in this special place, say farewell the way locals do, with a hearty "Hej då."
