Clean, comfortable and convenient and shuttle!

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Convenient location; shuttle service; bedding
Cons: Complimentary coffee service in the morning would be nice.
Location: Close to Duquesne. Also enjoyed eating at the Hofbrauhaus.
My son and I stayed here for his college tour of Duquesne. We drove directly from the airport to the college and parked there, then drove to the hotel afterwards. The hotel is within walking distance of the campus on a good day, but frigid temps would have prohibited us from walking on this day. The hotel parking garage is indoors and manned by valets. Cost was $22 for our night's stay. Our room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Pillows and bedding were very cozy. We both slept very well. A 7-Eleven convenience store is located adjacent to the lobby which is convenient for picking up snacks and some essentials. The best part of the hotel stay was the super-convenient shuttle service that took us to a restaurant on southside and picked us up when we were ready to return. Great door-to-door service without the stress of having to navigate an unfamiliar city on our own. For this alone I would stay again.

Close to Consol

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Walking distance to Consol.
Cons: The mattress need replaced.
The hotel was clean and very nice. The restaurant inside was very good. We got stuck in a handicap accessible room # 1921. The bed was terrible. The shower had a huge chair in it, and there was a hand held shower with no pressure.

Great service at a moments notice

Posted Feb 16, 2015
Pros: The friendly and helpful staff, the clean and well maintained facilities, and the pleasant atmosphere. And the cookies. Love the free cookies!
Cons: Normally, I'd say give out free cookies. But they've already got that! Maybe a cookie variety? I love chocolate chip, but others might like a choice.
Location: Fabulous restaurant and 7eleven connected to the hotel. Heinz Hall within walking distance.
So when we visited Pittsburgh, our stay was extended due to a surprise ice storm. The Hotel staff was incredibly helpful! They didn't immediately add another night onto our bill because we had originally booked through expedia and got a VERY discounted price. Instead, the concierge marked us for a late check in and helped me through the steps to book another night through expedia, ensuring that we could keep our discount. When I called down to the front desk for more pillows (I'm allergic to down pillows so I needed cotton) the guy was at the door with three more pillows in less than two minutes. I have never waited for less than ten for new pillows! Room service was likewise prompt and the delivery man pleasant. I've had bad experiences with Hilton hotels before, but I absolutely LOVED my stay at the Double Tree! Between the great customer service, exquisite facilities, and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies available 24-hours a day, I would absolutely recommend this hotel!

Good location - Noisy place

Posted Feb 9, 2015
Pros: The staff were pleasant and helpful and the in-hotel restaurant was surprisingly good and reasonably priced.
Cons: Better furnishings and renovation with an "ear" to sound deadening
Location: Location is very convenient to the Consol event center but not near stores or evening restaurants.
This venue- located hotel must survive based on location only. Rates get jacked up 100 to 200% over "advertized" affordable rates. The hotel has no drive-up area at registration entrance and poorly marked/advertized hotel parking entrance in a confusing network of streets. It was the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed at that had windows that closed. There were no curtains to help deaden street noise - you could actually hear personal conversations from the sidewalk below in our 10th floor room - let alone street noise, sirens etc, The interior was no less noisy - the hallways had no sound deadening and actually echoed. All the doors (including bathroom) were steel, did not deaden hallway noise and banged when closed. The room was almost devoid of amenities - although there was a large open area near the bathroom there was no mini-frige etc. Furniture was cheap looking and nicked.

Nice hotel close to Consol Energy Center and down.

Posted Jan 25, 2015
Pros: The staff and close proximity to Consol Energy Center.
Location: The Consol Energy Center is a five minute walk. The Strip district is a five minute drive.
Friendly and helpful staff. The room was very clean and the bed was excellent. Should have brought a hair dryer. Not provided in the room.

Happy to be stuck!

Posted Jan 23, 2015
Pros: The Staff is amazing! They made being stuck in Pittsburgh a fun experience. They were pleasant, helpful and the service was really fast.
Cons: Ummm, perhaps this Double Tree could be the standard by which other Double Tree hotels are measured?
Location: Warhol Museum, Concerts
I booked this hotel through Expedia and than got really sick. My adult children (18, 19, & 23) had to go without me. I sent my credit card along, but was worried they would have problems checking in. My daughter explained the situation and the staff didn't give them any trouble. They are allergic to down so ordered different pillows. Pillows arrived in less than 10 minutes. My kids used the hotels shuttle service to go to a concert . It was great and the driver friendly. There was an ice storm that night and I didn't want the kids to make the 6 hour drive home on bad roads. The hotel staff walked my kids through how to rebook through Expedia to get the same rate as the night before....WOW! My kids raved about how helpful all the staff at the front desk were. Room service was fast and the food was good. They ate at the hotel restaurant and said the service and food were amazing. When they first got there, the kids took tons of pics of the room, even under the beds. Great room, VERY clean. I am one happy Momma!

The room is definitely dated.

Posted Jan 7, 2015
Pros: Location. Location, Location.
Cons: More updated, cleaner rooms. They were 'clean' but the air was 'old' as was the bathroom.
Location: Consul Energy Center--hockey, culture! Strip District. Cultural/theater district
The room had nothing special about it. It had the smell of an aged hotel. Best part is the location right downtown and next to the Consul Energy Center. Easy walking to some downtown establishments. Short drive to Strip District.
