Pittsburgh Gem

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: Everything. Location, staff, price, shuttle.
This is one of best hotels I have stayed in. I was not a huge fan of HIE, but this one was perfect. Never been to Pittsburgh. Just went for a brief 4 day 3 night visit. It was awesome! First of all, no parking fees. Second, this place is about 2.5 miles from downtown. They will even take you by shuttle (for free). The staff was outstanding. Eugene and Gregg was awesome! Gave us a brief tour of the Burgh. Don't skip out on Washington Heights. Shiloh Grill is a great place to eat with a better happy hour. Nice Jazz club. James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy was fantastic. Great music and drinks with a wonderful atmosphere. Both places were recommended by the staff. Finally, breakfast was pretty good. Simple, yet good. The workout room was great. Equipment and facilities was very nice. When I return to Pittsburgh, I will definitely stay at this location again. Thanks for the hospitality.

Nice Hotel close to PNC

Posted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: Very friendly staff and hotel location made getting into Pittsburgh easy.
Location: Location is great to go to PNC Park or Heinz Field or aviary or Station Square. Easy to get on or off the Parkway.
What a great experience. We booked three rooms for ourselves and daughters and their families. We had breakfast at the hotel for 2 mornings and it was great. Lots of food and the staff kept the buffet filled with all the food items. We made use of the free shuttle service to do some sight seeing. The van was large enough to take all 11 of us and saved us the drive and parking expense. Our family is already planning next years trip.

Nice remodel of older hotel

Appears to be an older hotel that has been updated nicely. Good breakfast, friendly housekeeper, comfy bed, nice showerhead, would stay again.

Clean, comfortable, and friendly

Posted Aug 14, 2014
I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It is next door to an abandoned apartment complex, which initially made me wonder about the safety of the neighborhood. However, the neighborhood seemed otherwise quite lovely-- plenty of restaurants, drug stores, grocery stores nearby. The hotel was comfortable and clean, the breakfast was good. Parking was free, and easy. Everything in the hotel was easily accessible, and the hotel is small enough to get around easily. Our room wasn't cleaned, so I had to call down for towels when we got back at night. However, this was minor to us since we only stayed one day.

Nice hotel in Pittsburgh

Posted Aug 13, 2014
The hotel was very clean, rooms clean and the staff very helpful. The very nice thing about this hotel was the shuttle service to and from restaurants and sights in Pittsburgh. We never used our car once while there and the parking is free. The shuttle drivers, who are actually hotel staff, were like tour guides, very pleasant and courteous. Will definitely stay at this hotel on our next visit to Pittsburgh.

Great Price & Close to Pittsburgh Attractions

Great hotel: neat, clean and welcoming. A monetary value and the complimentary shuttle service was a life saver. Eugene was the best!

Very good

Pros: Free wi-fi and good breakfast buffet were pluses, as was the location and price of the hotel.
Cons: Two elevators for 8 floors and 150 rooms seems a bit lean, especially when one went out of order. Not sure this can be helped. Took the stairs then.
Location: The hotel is only a few miles from the city center by way of the very scenic Fort Pitt Bridge.
I was in town with my wife and daughter to visit a family member. This hotel was not as pricey as the downtown options, and it was only minutes away from the city center via the interstate. The hotel is situated in a quiet, somewhat isolated office park adjacent to but above the interstate, and right outside the parking lot there is a highway exit leading to or from the office park. All that makes for convenient commutes by car. There is also an hourly hotel shuttle to downtown Pittsburgh for those who won't or can't drive, and public transit in the downtown area is pretty good (the light rail is free within downtown). The building is clean and well-kept. The double queen room we had was spacious and comfortable, and included a good-sized refrigerator and microwave. The complimentary, self-service breakfast buffet was very good by roadside hotel standards, and there was a group of senior ladies who kept the very busy breakfast rush running smoothly. All things considered, our stay was a net positive.
