"Fantastical!"
Went on this trip with my boyfriend and neither of us could be happier with the place. When we go beachy, we usually stay at large resorts literally on the beach, but this time we chose to go for something more low key. So happy we did. Maya Villa is one part of several locations owned by the same company and located within several blocks of one another. Our spot (Maya Villa) was so many great things: bigger than my NYC apartment, clean, new, provided everything you'd need in a condo. I lounged out on our little patio across from the waterfall nearly every night (just be sure to wear bug spray!). You have access to the amenities of all other locations too. Indigo beach club is a block away, the other beach club (Wicky's) is a few blocks but much better for swimming. You get free beach chairs/umbrellas at both. Their restaurants are great. We had breakfast included (which was no continental) at Indigo or Imprevist and it was delicious. The location is perfect, between the beach and 5th Ave where there are a plethora of bars, souvenir shops, high end malls, pharmacies, etc. Its also about a ten minute walk to the Cozumel ferry, which is about a 40 min ride. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The only negative is that there was some kind of construction going on next to our room (412) and we heard knocking through our wall, but it wasn't all the time. If I go back to Riviera Maya it will be to this hotel!

"Excellente !"
Everything about our vacation was great and we just got back last night after a 7 day vacation. We lived in the Zen area and its very calm - If you are going to relax , Then pick Zen ( with a mosquito repellent) though. Ambassador is nicer but expensive. If you dont care about budget - pick ambassador. Our staff was outstanding ( Fernando, Jesus from Concierge) Jacobo at bar, Raul and Gerardo at Pool to name some. The only one concern i have about the resort is - Kids club. They should do something about small babies apart from leaving us the only option to hire a babysitter as it becomes expensive after a point. Our kids are 1 and 3 which kind of limited ourselves to be around them when we dint have a babysitter. Restaurants : Frida was exceptional followed by Cocina Autor. Did not get a chance to try Bistro or Piaf as we have kids. The only one restaurant which wasn't on par was Senlin as everything we ate was sweet. Activities : Snorkeling is included in all inclusive and it was great ! A lifeguard takes you in a kayak to the reef which was fun. Photography : DreamArt did an exceptional job with pics and i wish it was affordable. I thought they were very expensive though. There is a lot to write but overall - Its worth every penny- Just do it!

"A relaxing oasis"
My boyfriend and I spent a week at Petit Lafitte and had a pleasant and memorable vacation. We are not fussy travelers and the hotel gave us exactly what we needed in Mexico - great beach access, warm and attentive staff, quality food, and easy access to outdoor and cultural activities. We did not care for BIG resort lifestyle with a ton of happenings, amenities, and swarms of people, and that's not what Petit is about. As other reviewers have pointed out, lunch is not included in the board, but is reasonably priced at the beach-side bar/restaurant. Daily menu included complimentary chips/salsa/garlic dip and hamburgers, hot dogs, ceviche, salads, tacos, etc. Mango daiquiri and pina coladas are not to be missed. You can check out the bar-side board for nightly entertainment listings - our favorites were a Mayan performance and violinist/guitar act. The staff members are genuinely warm and made us feel welcome at every turn. David rocks the concierge, and helped us with excursion research, directions, etc. Some may see the distance to Playa a disadvantage, but for us, a single day trip to its shopping strip/beach was plenty. On another day, we rented a car and drove to see the Coba ruins. Highly recommend navigating by car, as the main highway pretty much gets you anywhere you want to go.

I am really picky with where I stay. The Palm at Playa was clean, modern, classy and just PERFECT!!! No problems at all with noise as other reviews mentioned... But we were placed in back.

"WONDERFUL STAY AT ROYAL"
My eldest daughter and I had a great vacation. We were fortunate to be upgraded and stayed first night at Grand Porto next door. Would definitely bring my granddaughters there. Our Royal Master suite at Royal was stunning. Only complaint would be that there is no water view due to construction. Had best meal at Asiana and best massage at spa. Beach service needs more help. Too much for one person to do which caused delays and melted drinks. Overall best location, friendliest staff and way too short VACATION. Do not hesitate to go there.

"Great Hotel - it is a party scene"
Stayed one night here recently. The room was excellent - clean and comfortable bed. Every room has two hammocks on it's outside porch which was a great touch. Breakfast and dinner are included at the restaurant which was a buffet. The food was ok - just fine for one night. The only bad thing and I've noticed this everywhere I've stayed along the beach in Playa del Carmen is the noise at night. It is definitely a hip party scene with deep base music bumping in the afternoon and at night. Las Palapas appears to be cultivating a relaxing scene but I don't think you can compete with the noise next door. Fine for one night but I wouldn't last more! Good thing we were off to Tulum instead - much quieter.

"Best resort we've ever stayed at"
We have 2 young boys (6 and 3.5). First this place is paradise. Iguanas are out on the rocks and fascinating for the kiddos. The beach is pristine and waves are gentle enough for a 3 year old. There are two pools both w/ shallow spots great for kids. The grounds are immaculate (immaculate!) and breathtaking. The BEST for us though was the people. They learned our names and we have a boy w/ some allergies. They cooked him food special just for him (diary and egg allergy) and they make sure every night something special was set aside for him (no extra charge). They are good people and they take care of you. Another huge plus is that no one got sick. We ate and drank everything. The water they give you at dinner, breakfast, lunch is "purified" comes to them in 5 gallon containers. The ice is even purified. We didn't have any issues at all. The food too - was high quality (very high). I know there are a lot of families out there w/ kids w/ allergies and I'm here to tell ya this place will take care of you. Every waiter seemed to know "ahhh you're the family ### in 19c" - yes we have something special for you little guy. They made sure he was not left out and the chef even came out and talked to us. Another plus - the beach. neighboring resorts have beach chairs in such close proximity. Not Mahekal - theirs are spread out and under traditional umbrellas so you can have some privacy and shade. We will be back!!! I feel like we have family in Mahekal.

"Great hotel, great view, amenities are great"
Our stay was great, the hotel was very friendly as were all the guest. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful as much as they can be. Everything is in walking distance. Only negative thing is the clubs close by get loud at night but if you close the door to your room you can't hear anything.

Pocket Guide: Riviera Maya Playa del Carmen Independent Beach Hotels

Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.
