One day brief stay - Not the best spot

Posted Apr 24, 2015 on Hotels
The bed sheets and pillows were not up to hotel standards; Very old. AC in room did not work much. The beach is very rocky. Path is quite overgrown and not maintained. Room is small and cramped with 2 queen sized beds, not much room. There was a stench in the room, prob due to bad plumbing. The sound of the waves was definitely a plus though.

Peaceful and quiet Villa by the Ocean

Posted Mar 18, 2015
Pros: Everything.... the quiet, private location
Cons: can't think of anything.
Location: Blue Lagoon, Rafting on the Rio Grande, Boston Bay, Winifred Beach, Port Antonio, Reach Falls and lots more.
This was my favorite place in Jamaica as it was close to so many things but tucked away in very private area. We spent lots of time walking on the black sand beach picking up special rocks, coral and a few shells. We went rafting on the Rio Grande, swimming in the Blue Lagoon, Winifred Beach, ate Jerk Chicken at Boston Bay and a little shopping in Port Antonio. The people running the Villa are delightful, friendly and absolutely wonderful. The breakfasts were delicious as was all the food that Tall Man (the chef) made for us. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks for the hospitality.

Nice N very close to the beach.

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Was beautiful nice and quite my husband and I enjoyed more than the kids I think. Breakfast was good too & the staff very nice the only problem was water leaked out of the shower to the bathroom floor, didn't like that they stored their supplies in the room even tho the were polite about it they had to come in to get something otherwise its very nice and I plan to go back again in the future.

By the Sea

Posted Feb 6, 2015
Location: Apart from rafting, there is nothing else in St Margaret's Bay. Shops, banks, restaurants & Errol park in P. Antonio, 4 miles away.
Palatial sea-front home, lovely grounds and accommodating host. Master suite on second floor with terrace overlooking the sea provided privacy, a comfortable mattress, mosquito netting (which wasn't needed) sitting area inside and on the terrace, and a quiet air conditioner. Bathroom had all the conveniences but finishing was rustic. Location is about 4 miles west of Port Antonio in St Margaret's Bay where Rio Grande river flows into the sea--a bit confusing for us driving from the south and around the east end of the island. Peter, our host, prepared dinner for us on short notice on arrival and arranged our "rafting on the Rio Grande", a wonderful and interesting tour on a bamboo raft with Captain Trevor polling downriver. Some Rapids and white water which I would describe as gentle. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Good view, room could be better

Posted Jan 9, 2015 on Hotels
Our stay was okay. The room was a little dark and the AC didn't work as well. Breakfast in the morning was just ok. The location is nice, though just a little hard to find. Could have been better.

Ligger långt utanför Port Antonio, mitt ute i ingenstans, så vi valde faktiskt ej att stanna där, åkte vidare direkt! Kan tyvärr därför ej betygsätta..

We are located in St. Margaret's Bay just outside of Port Antonio in the Parish of Portland. We are in a secluded private neighborhood for those who want to get away from it all and relax. The area is very quiet and right on a black sand beach.

Hübsche Pension mit Meeresblick.

Posted Apr 25, 2014
Pros: Abgeschiedenheit, Ruhe.

Thanks Olaf, glad you enjoyed your stay. The beach is a private black sand beach so its different than most jamaican white sand beach expectations, but its warm waters and wave are awesome. Come again!!

By the sea vacation home and villa

Posted Apr 4, 2014 on Hotels
The room we were given had a view of the sea. You could hear the waves crashing and the birds chirping. The ladies that gave us the room key were very nice. They made us fried plantains, toast, eggs, and steamed calaloo for breakfast. They charged &10.00 to wash and dry a large load of clothes. There was no one else staying in the house at the same time and it was quiet and peaceful. The beach was rocky and I didn't get in the water, but the yard is clean and we'll maintained. There were no signs on the road to let you know we're to turn in to the hotel, but it is just over the bridge where some guys are directing people to take a river rafting tour.

Thanks Irene for your comment we are looking into getting a sign for the road but there is a lot of red tape here in Jamaica. The beach is black sand but the water is extremely warm and shallow with great waves at times. Thanks for choosing By the Sea!
