Lychee Tree Holiday Apartments was simply perfect for our family trip to North Queensland. We had three parties needing multiple rooms, and several kids to cater for. Across three apartments we had more than enough space and amenities that we could have meals together, swim in the pool every day, get in and out of town easily walking or by car, and also have private time depending on who needed sleep and when. Having our own kitchens and lounge/dining was essential so that we didn’t have to eat out for every meal but it’s location meant when we did want to try the local offerings it was literally within walking distance. The beach, marina, Main Street and links to other parts of North Queensland are all very close by, meaning it’s a wonderful base of operations for whatever adventures you wish to have during the day. Edward was friendly and always accessible, so we knew we had to only ask if we needed something. We’d happily book again for our next trip to the area.

Firstly guests need to know you are dealing with the caretakers and not the owners. Each unit is owned separately. Our unit was clean and we were well supplied with coffee, sugar, washing powder etc but only one toilet roll which became a problem when the local Coles were closed for a public holiday. We were booked in for the week so definitely a negative particularly when the office is only open for a few hours a day. The other problem is the very noisy water pipes when next door had a shower, particularly late at night or early morning. The pool was great and the bed was comfortable so I think it definitely is a good 3 star accommodation with reasonable rates. Plenty of crockery and even things often missing like red & white wine glasses. Spoke to caretakers about the water pipe noise and as he stated it would be a body corporate issue and not something he could do much about. Altogether a pleasant experience.

The apartment was OK, but honestly I was a little disappointed. It is more of a motel style apartment complex than a resort. The photos look great, but they don't reflect how small the apartment really is. The kitchen could only fit one person, and it wasn't fitted out well. The pans were very limited and warped on the bottom so they didn't make contact with the stove. The saucepan provided was tiny. Only one side of the toaster worked. There was no water jug in the fridge. The plates don't match and don't fit into the tiny sink. Honestly, it all seemed a bit thrown together without much thought. Most of the apartment was acceptably clean - the bathrooms etc. But the inside of the cupboards in the linen closet and the bedrooms were dusty and grimy. The dishes in the cuboards were obviously dirty and had to be rewashed before we could use them. The linen was in very good condition, although only a blanket was supplied instead of doonas. The air conditioning was great. The pool is lovely, and very warm. The hosts were friendly. Would I stay there again? Probably not. There has to be better out there.

Sunshine at the Lychee
We had a fabulous 6 nights at Lychee Tree. The 2 bedroom apartment we had was one of the best we’ve stayed in. Comfy bed, comfy couch, close to pool, lots of room, and great kitchenette. It could do with a new kettle and a less noisy washing machine but, all in all, the room was great. Edward and Leo were excellent hosts. The pool and surrounds itself was very inviting. The BBQ was so clean. All the guests we met there were wonderful people. We felt very safe. The apartments are walking distance to the Marina from Port St and the Macrossan St shops and eateries from Davidson St. We did not want to leave. Especially so because the rest of the country was in COVID lockdown. Oh well, we are grateful for the opportunity to have enjoyed some warmth and relaxation.
