Villa 25

Wharf Road Dream Cove, Port Vila - Map
"Relaxing and just as advertised"
Villa 25 actually looks like the pictures. Picked up by Abel from the airport, swung by the dive shop to confirm arrangements, the village fruit/vegatable market and the 'supermarche', then on to Villa 25. We spent the time unwinding, reading, sleeping, swimming in the infinity pool, snorkelling in the coral off the beach and using the kayaks. A few restaurants, fire twirling and a half day trip to a few locations. We did some diving with 'Big Blue', including the Advanced Open Water Course. When it suited us we got them to pull up a 100m or so of the beach around 8.30-9am and swam out to the boat. We were then dropped off later and swam back in. We largely self catered but when you want to go out to restaurants or the fire twirling Shaz (covering for Kris who was on holidays) made bookings and the driver would drop you off and pick you up for a fee - V30k airport pick up, V20k town and return, V50k to firetwirling and return, V70k for various half day trips. They are reliable, safe and living in a 'gated' area it is simpler. I had a minor ear issue from diving and Shaz drove me straight in to a french doctor and it was quickly remedied. You can eat and relax in your Vila or use the 'luana' (a great common area next to the pool). We had great people in the other two villas and tended to have an evening drink and eat in the common area. If you just want to unwind for a week you could almost not leave Villa 25 at all.

"Everything you needed"
Having spent 5 days at another resort this stay was too short, just 2 nights. Our highlight was Kayaking around the bay getting a good look at the area and then on the second day kayaking into town for shopping and brunch. The trip took over an hour each way, we pulled the kayak up onto a rocky beach before the market and took the paddles with us as weren't sure how safe it would be leaving them in the kayak. The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable, quaint rather than luxurious. We ordered in Chinese meals from the restaurant handy with the help of the staff and this we enjoyed. There were other restaurants handy but we wanted to enjoy having a drink on the balcony, eating in and hearing the lapping of the waves and taking in the view. The staff were excellent and one felt very safe and nurtured.

Island Magic Resort

Port Vila, Mele - Map
"Perfect family holiday spot"
Really good spot on Mele Bay on the opposite side of the bay to Hidaway island. Snorkeling right out the front of the resort was some great with heaps of good coral and loads of fish up to about 50cm long. We went in within about an hour of the plane landing. At low tide it was a little bit tricky to get out of the water with the kids but well worth the effort and at high tide it was easy. We made use of the two rooms (one for the kids), washing machine and kitchen with full size fridge. It is about a 10 minute drive into the centre of town so we just hired a small 4wd for the week and it worked out well and we went to more places on the island thatn we would have otherwise. The road to the resort is a typical rough dirt road but not much different from the roads in town. The road around the island was great and is all tar and in good condition. First night we ate at Benjor which is a short walk up the road but once we had the car we ate at a different place each night and cooked on the BBQs in the resort too. The hosts were great and did the extra little things that made it nicer like bringing down some hot cross buns and chocolate eggs for the kids at Easter. The grounds were well looked after and it was a very private place with only 18 bungalows. We would definitely go back again.

Erakor Island Resort & Spa

P.O. Box 24, Port Vila - Map
"Lovely beach house, with beautiful views"
We spent 9 days in a warm tropical paradise, swimming and snorkelling everyday, straight from our room. The lagoon was full of fish and something different to see everyday. The island is full of wonderful genuine people. The food is excellent with chefs specials that cannot be faulted. Would recommend the gardens on the summit, especially for getting some insect repellant for those who react to insect bites. Tamanu Oil is the best for taking the itch and sting away, and it is made on site. Vanuatu is a special place that should be experienced.
