Failure as a Hampton Inn Wannabe! Not Exceptional!

Posted Apr 23, 2015
Pros: Location.
Cons: If you want to be a Hampton Inn truly act like one - providing Excellent Product, Service and Value within Brand Consistency - Comfort Inn?????
Location: Great Shopping, Sight Seeing & Food Options
This Inn mirrors that Choice Hotel philosophy of "anything goes" - No Brand Standards. The room was poorly cooled - one HVAC Unit for a double bay suite! No Thermostat - old through the wall unit that butted right up to one of the queen beds with the drapes flapping in the wind. The water closet area was poorly lit and ventilated. Small residential toilet. Fiberglass tub surround. The walls in the water closet and been very poorly repaired - Water Leak? The lighting throughout the suite was very poor making the room depressingly dark. The breakfast area seating area was undersized for the number of rooms. The breakfast itself had all of the expected items but displayed as if by an Army mess sergeant. The coffee was best described as hot colored water - couldn't wait to check out to get to MacDonald's for real coffee. The Hotel proudly displays "Save the Planet" materials in it's guest bath areas but at the same time uses Styrofoam Coffee Cups - Hypocrisy? In defense of the hotel, I should have know better!!! I wonder about Expedia's Rating of "Exceptional", they certainly charge exceptional rates. Choice Hotels Never Again.

Thank you for making the time to write, Thom, and I regret that your stay with us didn't meet your expectations. While we make no claim to be any other brand, we do work very hard to earn the Gold standard which our guests have earned us in this brand : ). Any time something is not right with your stay, let us know and we'll take care of you. It looks like you were here when Garth Brooks was in town and the entire market was sold out from Sunday and Thursday, which does affect rate (and of course the three bed suite costs a bit more). I do hope that you will stay at Choice Hotels again in the future. Meanwhile, I wish you all the best of the summer. Loree

Gateway to explore the gorge

Posted Apr 12, 2015
We wanted a location to launch our hikes of Eagle Creek and the many other hikes in the Columbia Gorge but that was still close to Portland and good restaurants. This motel was nice, clean and close to what we wanted to do. Breakfast was good and filling before our big days' activities. Dairy Queen is right next door, so depending on your perspective, that could be a good thing or a bad thing. Would have been nice for the kids to have a pool to play in, but the outdoor hot tub was nice after long days of hiking.

I'm still trying to decide myself whether having Dairy Queen right next door is a good thing or a bad thing. It is building my willpower up to structural steel levels when the Peanut Buster Parfaits start calling to me, so we'll go with good :)). Thank you for the lovely review, Brent, and I'm very glad you were able to get out and explore. Hopefully some of those good restaurants were just up at the top of the hill - for a small town, we have more than our fair share of great food and variety. Looking forward to having you back the next time you're down this way, and enjoy summer! Loree

I do so love those five pretty stars : ). Thank you, Mark - appreciate you making the time to write, and very glad you got out the Falls. It's a beautiful time of year with all the fresh green and early wildflowers coming on. Hoping to see you again the next time you're in the area, and enjoy the rest of spring! All the best, Loree

comfortable bed, clean dog-friendly room

Posted Mar 27, 2015
Pros: Best hotel bed I've ever slept on, choice of pillows was great. Everything was very clean. Late checkout time (1 pm). Dog friendly.
Cons: Have soy or almond milk available (could be single size servings in the fridge with the yogurt), put meat in a completely separate dish
Location: Close to Vista House at Crown Point and fifteen miles from Multnomah Falls.
The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and there were both firm and soft pillows to choose from. Plenty of hot water. Refrigerator and microwave in the room. Breakfast available in the lobby, but the bacon was right in between the scrambled eggs and potatoes (one hot dish with three inserts), and had spilled over into both sides and people had mixed the serving spoons. I'm vegetarian, so that pretty much grossed me out. But there was yogurt, cereal, bagels, juice, etc. There is a commuter airport across the street, and the flights started early, so I heard several planes flying over. My husband slept with earplugs, so they didn't bother him. The doors to the rooms tend to slam if you let them close automatically, and our door rattled whenever someone else on the hall closed their door. I'm a very light sleeper, so I didn't get back to sleep after everyone started leaving. Overall though, I was very impressed and this is definitely one of our better hotel experiences.

Kathy, thank you for your comment on the breakfast. We should always have the meat to the left, then eggs in the middle and potatoes on the right so that they don't get mixed in the chafer, so appreciate the feedback that we missed on that. Guest serving utensils are less controllable : ), but just let the hostess know and we'll get you untouched ones. I will print this as a reminder to the staff setting up breakfast. I'm very glad that you had a good stay with us. Request the east side of the building with a "light sleeper" note on your reservation next visit, and we'll get you over on the river side and away from the small planes. Enjoy summer, and we look forward to having you back soon! Best, Loree
