Great Hotel

Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: Breakfast staff are very friendly and helpful. The complementary breakfast was a full breakfast. Free use of umbrellas.
Location: Downtown Portland is about 15 minutes away. Outdoor mall next to the hotel.
Spent Thursday through Saturday here. Hotel is very clean, spacious, and close to resturants and shopping. Portland is about 15 minutes away so it was a great spot.

Beautiful lobby, disappointing room

Posted Jul 21, 2015
Pros: The restaurant was very good and service was excellent. The front desk staff were very friendly. Breakfast was great.
Cons: New, better beds and upgraded furniture.
Location: A very busy main street with lots of noise all night long. Downtown Salem is fairly boring - lots of shops and restaurants but really not interesting
The Grand is "grand" in the lobby and the restaurant, Bentleys, is very pretty. I wish more money had been spent on the room furnishings and especially the bed instead of the pretty lobby. I had one of the worst night's sleep that I've had in any hotel in recent memory. The bed was so hard that it was impossible to get comfortable. The air conditioning was not working properly so although it was set for 70 the temperature was 76 when we woke up. I was unable to leave the window open for fresh air because the street noise was terrible. This might have been alleviated with better soundproofing on the windows. The furniture in the room looks very cheap and is worn, although the size of the rooms (it was a one-bedroom suite) was nice. Bathroom is fairly nice with granite counter, etc. but bed and bath linens could be more upscale. All in all, a bad night's sleep isn't worth that pretty lobby and restaurant.

Beautiful hotel

Pros: Cleanliness, staff, proximity to Bridgeport Village
Cons: n/a
Location: near Bridgeport Village
My girlfriend and I have stayed here twice, and it's been nothing but pleasant both times. Clean, quiet, and not ridiculously expensive, either. Front desk has been very accommodating. Great breakfast in the morning. Close to Bridgeport Village and Theaters. Highly recommended!
