“Solid hotel”
About what I would expect from a Holiday Inn Express...nothing too fancy, but nothing bad either. Slow time, so the hotel was almost empty. Our room looked out to the interstate a little bit away, but it's not busy. The room was quiet, and everything worked.
We needed to call for bath towels once, and they brought one too few (which we didn't notice until showering the next morning -- kids had to share). Only other nit was I thought the pillows were too soft. That said, I sleep on a tempurpedic pillow at home, so I usually think pillows are too soft wherever I go.
Breakfast was fine -- again solid, but nothing special. They did a good job restocking everything including coffee.
Outdoors or beach
We hiked around Wolfe Neck state park. Very easy trails through woods and along Casco Bay. Whole family enjoyed it. There's also a nice trail along the Royal River in Yarmouth that I don't think gets any publicity, but my dad took us out there. The former you can hike around for a few hours if you want, the latter is a pretty walk, but it's short (30-45 minutes).
