“Huge rooms, elegantly designed in perfect location”
I have been going to Portland on business for about 10 years and always stayed at the same boring hotel by my office. This time I decided to see more of Portland than the river and stay somewhere downtown. I have stayed in Monaco properties elsewhere - and I LOVE that they have a hotel dog (I admit it, that swayed me ). And even though the dog was on "vacation" the entire time I was there, I had a lovely time. Was not feeling that great, room service went out of their way to fix me what I wanted - even though it was not on the menu. Loved the large room - had a room with 2 beds, living room, large bathroom - 3 phones and 2 brand new TVs. TV channel selection kinda sucks. Definitely plan to stay there again.
“a must stay”
just go here. 'nuff said. happy hour. great restaurant. awesome staff. fun times.
“Great Hotel”
We regularly visit Portland, and from now on will be staying at the Hotel Monaco. Everyone from the parking valet to the front desk staff was extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. When they saw that we were traveling with our 7 month old daughter, they upgraded our reservation to a two-room suite with no extra charge so that she could get some sleep and we could relax. The wine / beer reception looked fun--next time we'll take more advantage of it. The hotel is in a great location. It's only a few blocks to Powell's Bookstore, Pioneer Courthouse Square, etc. Try out the tiny Thai restaurant around the corner (it's really great & does take-out). The parking is expensive, but worth it. You'll stay dry and once you park your car, you'll be able to get everyone you want to by walking or via the transit system.
“Great place but needs a couple things”
This hotel is very nice and in a great location in downtown Portland. I have two concerns with my recent stay though: 1) at 11:45 am Sunday morning (high traffic check out time) there was only one Front Desk person at the desk. I wanted to ask a quick question but received no assistance because the one agent working was completing an early CHECH IN for a three room group. 2) Why is it Monaco rooms have no dresser and why was there no Loveseat/settee in the room when there was plenty of space for it? I had this (no dresser) problem in San Francisco as well. In Portland the closet was so tiny you had to leave bags sitting out in the room. The mininimalist style seems to have gone to far at the sacrafice of comfort and convenience. The bathroom however was fantastic and the bed quite comfortable.
“Will be my regular place in Portland”
Great place! My only comment is it is a "dog friendly" hotel, and many guests have pets. There is a hypo-allergenic floor available on request...
“Loved it!”
Always enjoy staying at a Kimpton Hotel and this was no exception. We were in Portland for an event at another downtown hotel and the Monaco was conveniently located and we were able to walk to the party and back. We loved the room and the staff was very helpful. Hope to come back soon.
“wonderful stay”
Youthful staff very friendly, attentive, helpful. Ammenities included nightly complementary happy hour with local wines, beers, and liquors, as well as bicycles. Pet friendly, so lots of "special furry people". Location was excellent for sampling Portland's exhuberent night scene and eclectic dining. We will stay there again.
“has to be better for 4”
Hotel are ok ! I wouldn't rated 4 . My personal experience it should be 2.5 to 3 only. Parking garage are way over price. The beds are good . For the price I paid for the room , this hotel should have more accommodation.
“Great stay”
The hotel was beautiful and located in a great place to explore Portland. The only problem I had was dirty sheets! I asked to have them changed and they took care of it. So my only suggestion would be to check the sheets/towels. This is an environmentally friendly hotel so I think they maybe only change certain things when requested. Other than that the staff was great, the nightly wine reception was a lot of fun. The decor was also beautiful. I would definately return.
“Service and maintenance doesn't equal the price point”
The Hotel Monaco in Seattle is higher-end and better maintained. While the staff didn't really do anything wrong, they basically ignored us until the day we left. Those were different staff, and maybe Sunday is just a better day than Friday or Saturday. The worst disappointment was an almost sewer-like smell in the room. We finally identified it as coming from the central air and shut that off. Smell solved, but definitely stale air without an opening window. Since this was my wife's birthday, I spent extra on the suite, and would rather have stayed at The Nines in Portland any time. Smaller rooms, but much better overall. Not the worst, not the best. Check out the other downtown Portland hotels before choosing this one.
