Convenient to downtown Portland and the waterfront

Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: The friendly staff
We tried for several weeks to book a B & B, or a vacation rental, but it was a busy weekend in the Portland area. The hotels along the waterfront were either full, or selling rooms for $400 or more per night if they had any. Even the La Quinta was almost $200 per night, which, under normal circumstances, would be an extraordinary amount to pay for a budget hotel room. The property was well-maintained, and the room was clean and comfortable, however, this hotel's main attraction is its friendly staff. From the front desk to housekeeping, they were all nice to a person and did their work with a smile. I will never forget the housekeeper who, when we said "good-morning-how-are-you?" responded with a happy, "living the dream." We laughed and had a pleasant chat. We learned that she was studying to be a paralegal. In fact, many of the staff were students. All in all, it exceeded our expectations, and we appreciated the can-do attitude of this staff.

Reasonably Priced Accommodations

Posted Jul 23, 2014
We were in town for two days to see Portland and visit friends in surrounding towns. Location is good. There is a train track nearby, but we hardly noticed any trains passing. The hotel is a fifteen minute drive from the touristy waterfront of Portland. The rooms were simple but nice. Bathroom and in-room sink were clean and looked fairly new. Furniture in the room is typical hotel fare (except for the recliner - very comfy?), but in very good condition. Bed was very comfortable. Complimentary breakfast was good but not great. The usual -- cereal, yougurt, pastries, belgian waffles you can make yourself, fruit, etc. Sunday morning, there was plenty of seating. Monday morning, a tour bus was preparing to depart so the breakfast area was packed all morning. We at elsewhere. All in all, a good value and a very nice place to stay.

Nice, clean and affordable

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: Convenience, price and value. The room was clean and the hotel had nice amenities (pool, free breakfast, WiFi).
Cons: Many of the patrons there for this weekend were there for the Portland Old Port half marathon. The hotel did not provide shuttle service to the race.
Location: While it was not right downtown, it was very close to the highway and it was a short distance to downtown.
This hotel was very reasonably priced for a busy weekend in Portland. It was convenient, good amenities, helpful staff and the room was neat and clean. The rooms were in good shape, although the bathroom could have been a little nicer. It wasn't bad, but you could tell it had been a while since it (the bathroom) had been redone. Other than that the hotel was very much worth the money and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Great hotel, the staff was great but the neighborhood might have been the only bad thing about our stay

Just OK

Posted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: The pool was pretty nice....
Cons: I would like to see more improvement being environmentally friendly. The Styrofoam garbage created each day from the breakfast buffet was disturbing.
Location: Freeport shopping, Freeport Desert, Puffin Cruise in Boothbay Harbour, Maine Wildlife Park in Gray.
5 night stay in Portland. Not too close to the Harbour.

Did not give us non smoking room.

Posted Jul 8, 2014
Cons: Staff should pay attention to booking request details.
The room smelled horribly of smoke, and we had requested non-smoking room. I have bad allergies smoke and will not stay at a La Quinta again.
