Way better than expected

Posted Oct 2, 2014
I had to go to Portland unexpectedly and needed a cheaper hotel than I usually stay in. I got there to check in and was a littler nervous as the hotel doesn't look too nice from the outside but the check in was easy and the staff was nice. I got to my room and layed down and didn't want to get up. The bed was so comfortable, I just melted into it. I've stayed at the Marriot and Crowne Plaza while in Portland before and can honestly say, I was more comfortable here. After checking out, I recieved a call a couple hours later letting me know I had accidently left some money in the room. They wanted to make sure it was not a tip instead of just assuming. I have to say, that really speaks volumes to me.

Very nice

The staff was super helpful and very friendly. The rooms were clean and nicely set up. Hotel is right by the street car line and less than a 5 min walk to the tri met line to get to the west side of the city. A great place to stay a few nights for sure!

Very helpful desk clerk

Posted Sep 28, 2014
Pros: Good price with easy access to Portland
Cons: The doors were a little scruffy.
Location: Close to public transport to any area of Portland.
We found the desk clerk extremely helpful and the other staff all very pleasant. It was easy to access the public transport into and around Portland and felt safe walking there.

Convenient & Affordable

Posted Sep 26, 2014
Located a short walk from Portland Convention Center and Tri Met MAX Light Rail station. Check in and check out was snap thanks to Expedia reservation. Awkward walk to rooms across parking lot, elevator not clearly marked. Building interior including rooms a bit played out. Time for a renovation. Still, everything was clean and free WiFi was a nice feature. On a tight budget for one or two nights, OK. Anything beyond that, bump up a star or two.

Comfortable hotel for a decent price

Posted Sep 24, 2014
Pros: Location, staff, proximity to Max trains, reasonable rates.
Cons: This property definitely needs a facelift.
Location: Great proximity to convention center, MODA, downtown, and close to MAX to the airport (and pretty much all other areas of Portland).
While this property is dated and could definitely use some sprucing up, my room was impeccably clean, the bed was comfortable and the staff was more than accommodating. Breakfast is offered every morning and there is a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave in the room. There is also a pool and a gym which I did not use.

Pros: Good proximity to the convention center & rail line
I arrived late at night. The desk attendant clearly instructed me how to get to my 2nd floor room - explaining about the 2 sets of stairs I would have to take. I followed his instructions- lugging my carry-on bags & 50 lb suitcase up the 2 stair cases. There did not appear to be any other option based on the appearance of the hotel. Granted, I should have asked- but he emphasized the word "stairs" twice during the instructions. The following morning - what did I see? An ELEVATOR. Needless to say, I was quite upset.

Pros: Location
Location: There are plenty of restaurants and activities within walking distance (no more than 1/2 mile).
We stayed 2 nights. It's not a 5 star hotel, but was comfortable and clean (beds WAY too soft).

Tear it down and build it new

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: When it was time to leave ( couldn't wait to get out of that dump )
Cons: Once again, tear it down and build it new.
Location: Mainly malls and not so tasty places to eat.

Pros: Staff were friendly.
Cons: The hotel needs some major updates to the rooms.
Location: Location is fine. Pretty central and close to transportation.
The hotel is old and looks and smells old! While our room was non smoking, the smell in it begs to differ. Perhaps it used to be a smoking room and the smell is imbedded in everything. No amount of airing it out helped. The pool was not appealing at all so didn't even try it out. Bathroom didn't even have a tub, just an old shower. Front staff was very friendly and helpful in giving directions to city attractions which is about the only good thing about our stay.
