Nice pool areaPosted Aug 23, 2014
The rooms are getting a bit old, and when you walk in, they smell a bit old, however, the pool area is really very nice! I would go back for the pool and it's surroundings! The rooms are clean and they're fine, just aging!

Would not go backPosted Aug 23, 2014
View was of the parking lot. So much for "on the lake".

The hotel was decent. It could sure use some sprucing up. Still smells like stale smoke

Staff not immediately helpfulPosted Aug 18, 2014
I used Expedia to book a room at this hotel. We said we had 2 adults and 3 kids. When we arrived, room only had 2 queen beds and hotel wanted to charge$20 for a cot. I thought this was not our quoted rate and it took some convincing for staff to provide the cot free of charge.

Great hotel in a great locationPosted Aug 13, 2014
We stayed 3 nights at the Red Lion on the River and enjoyed the view of the river, comfortable rooms and quick access to I-5. The dining room has an incredible view of the river and friendly service. We will definitely stay there again when visiting Portland.

Good Enough for One NightPosted Aug 9, 2014
Cons: The entire hotel (rooms, fitness center, lobby, restaurant, etc.) needs a serious facelift.
Location: Not too far from downtown Portland which was the main reason for our trip.
The entire hotel seemed run down and worn. It's definitely due for an upgrade and some changes. For being right on the river I expected a little better quality of a hotel. We went to the restaurant at night for drinks and the service was unbelievably slow and our drinks were barely drinkable. Breakfast at the restaurant the next morning was nothing to rave about. The room itself was mediocre. Nothing too make it stand out from any other hotel. If you stay here definitely bring your own pillow because ours were incredibly lumpy. The phone cord and guest services book were also really sticky and didn't seem like they had been cleaned in a long time.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time too share your feedback, The hotel is currently in the process of some upgrades and renovations, We just completed the resurfacing of the pool area for the summer season and we are in the process of painting the exterior of the building then we will be moving to the inside to complete some public space carpet and tile replacement, I have passed along your comments to our Restaurant Manager and Housekeeping Manager so they can follow up, I hope you have a chance to come see our changes we are making. Good Value with some missesPosted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: We enjoyed the nice outdoor pool with a beautiful view of the river. The location - just off I-5 was convenient and the area was safe.
Cons: I would suggest that they allow for deeper cooling in the guest rooms for comfort during the 'hot' months.
We chose this hotel on a recent trip to Portland where we wanted to keep our budget low. It's close to the MAX station so we could use the train system to get downtown and around the area easily/cheaply. The room was far less per night than a downtown Portland hotel and it was in a nice area with a lovely view of the river. Another reason we chose this hotel was the outdoor pool - which was very crowded but a bonus for my teenagers. The disappointments included the low water pressure and hard-to-cool room. It was particularly hot in Portland during our visit and the room would never get cool - uncomfortable sleeping in a 74 degree room. The shower was very nice and clean but the water pressure was so low that it was hard to call it a 'good' shower in the end. There were many new stores close to the hotel if you forgot to pack something. Can't say much for the restaurant selection but so we ate downtown during our trip. The downsides were plentiful but I would still say it was a good value and would recommend it if you're on a budget.
