Girl's weekend

The pictures online looked lovely. However, our room was disappointing. Small, rundown and dingy. I feel like we were robbed....paid way too much! A big bummer!

Lovely Hotel in the Heart of Downtown

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: Location and friendly staff!
Cons: There's a layer of water trapped between the tub and the liner so it's like standing on a water balloon. (room 334)
Location: Many bars and restaurants within walking distance. The Roseland Theater is a stone's throw away. Voodoo Donuts is also within walking distance.
Everything was better than we could have possibly expected. The staff was attentive to our every need. The room was larger than we expected. The location was perfect for walking anywhere our little hearts desired... We'll be going back!

downtown location convenient

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Cons: update renovation! Elevator definitely in need of an update!
Location: Great location , downtown
Hotel is in central downtown location. They did not have a room saved for us away from and elevator and on a higher floor as was requested. (We did book through Expedia so this might have been a communication problem on Expedia's Part.) However the hotel promptly found a room for us to suite our request. I did use room service and it was good ( great pasta dish ) Bed was very comfy! WE were located in the older part of the hotel and the windows were the original frames and glass ( not sound proof) so noise from the outside could be an issue if located on a lower floor! All in all we enjoyed our stay!

Amazing Staff

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: THE STAFF THERE WILL GO OUT OF THERE WAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE A REGULAR CLIENT THERE!!!
Cons: I couldn't possibly think of anything at the moment
Location: in the heart of pdx many restaurants and shops within a few blocks
I live here in PDX but wanted to get a room for the night for me and My other half so I booked the Junior Suite . All I could say was wow... The night before we were to have our romantic evening my kitty cat had a tragic accident and was not sure if he was going to make it. I had to call the hotel wasn't sure if they would let me change my stay I was in hysterics over my animal. Prior to the accident I had called to ask for champagne and strawberries to be delivered as well. The staff was busy but assured they would call me back. Well they did 3 times since I was at the vet I didn't have my phone but they kept trying and most hotels would of not did that. I was shocked that when I got back to them I was able to schedule the next night for me and my boyfriend. They even offered to upgrade my suite to the penthouse (AMAZING) At time of check in the front desk associate asked how my kitty was doing and if I had brought him with couldn't believe they would even care to ask how he was. When we got to the room the staff had sent complimentary chocolates and a nice note wishing my pet well. the room was gorgeous and the bed was amazing as well as the morning room service. I will definitely stay again ...THE STAFF THERE WILL GO OUT OF THERE WAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE A REGULAR CLIENT THERE!!!

Convenient downtown Portland location

Posted Apr 9, 2014
Pros: Elegant, grand style with wood paneling and comfortable lobby.
Cons: Room furniture and bathroom could use updating.
Location: The location is convenient to walking downtown, The Pearl district, riverfront-Saturday market, Saturday Farmer's market.
I have stayed at The Benson 4 times. The staff - front desk, doormen, valets - are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Short drive to my son's apartment in Irvington and restaurants on the east side. Very walkable location for all downtown/Pearl District.

used to be a premier place to stay

Posted Apr 6, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: see above
used to look forward to staying at the Benson, but the hotel needs a remodel/update badly. The room was very small, no place to lay out a suitcase to open & unpack unless using the bed. The closet doors don't shut. The room lighting was inadequate. The bathroom is only slightly bigger than a closet. I'll wait for a corporate takeover or a remodel before going back. It is historic, which means "old".

Beautiful facility, room and bed very comfy

Posted Apr 6, 2014
Would return in a heartbeat. Guest services employees fabulous! The only thing that I can say negative is a small piece of damage on a wall and the mini bar , while well stocked and reasonably priced, had standing discoulored water on the bottom. Minor issues with no real impact on my stay.

Internet connection was poor, perhaps it was just my computer. Everything else was superb.
