Great location, good 4 star hotel for the price

Posted Aug 25, 2014
The hotel seems to be a historic structure, it's got an opulent looking lobby area. We booked the standard rooms, which are moderately sized- though they do have seating areas. The bathrooms are quite small but they've worked around that by providing a lot of shelf space. Overall the rooms are clean and well kept. It's more than adequate for a short stay.

Sad...

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Closeness to other places in Portland.
Cons: Too many things to list..
Sorry not a friendly place. I was disappointed for the "blah" front desk staff when we arrived. Sorry spending a little over $1300.00 over 2 days in your establishment, my thought was I be treated better... The room decor: dated. Old.. Its okay for some things, but really... scratched up furniture, bathroom fixtures not working right, but lets not discuss the dated bathroom.. Just a sad old place...

Excellent facility

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: Very accommodating (I requested a room with a fridge after I made my reservation and I was placed in a room with a fridge without asking.)
Cons: The internet connection didn't work with my work's VPN so I couldn't do work from my room.
I stayed at the Benson during a work conference and it was a good choice. Easily accessible via foot, close to many amenities, but not in the bustling area. If you have to stay in downtown Portland, I would recommend this hotel.

Nice downtown location in a restored Portland gem

Posted Aug 8, 2014
This is a turn-of-the-century (20th Century, that is) restored hotel in downtown Portland, convenient to all downtown attractions. The rooms are small, but clean and well-appointed; the lobby is gorgeous, and the restaurant is also very nice. One drawback: no exercise facility on-site.

Great, affordable downtown hotel

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: Location; front-desk staff; room size and comfort; price; companion fish.
Cons: The only thing I can think of is that I had to replace my room key card once when it failed to trigger the elevator.
Location: Perfect for downtown Portland eateries (e.g. Mother's Bistro), stores (Powells, etc.), sights (Pioneer Sq.), and just strolling.
Recently spent 4 days in Portland, and had to find a last-minute hotel. The Benson was terrific, all-round. The location is perfect, 3 or four short blocks from Pioneer Square, the MAX light rail, etc., in a delightful building. My room, a queen-size, was large, cool, and clean. The bed was super comfortable. I only ate breakfast once in the hotel, but it (blueberry pancakes) was delicious. Best of all, the hotel offers a companion fish program, which meant that I shared my room with a beautiful blue Betta for the duration. Perfect for the solo traveler. I happily recommend the Benson to others visiting Portland.

Gorgeous Hotel, Great Location!

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Pros: Location, Character, History.
Location: Portland City Grill - Fantastic view, and good food Bailey's Tap Room - great craft beer selection, located just next door.
My wife and I love travelling down to Portland for a long weekend. This is the first time we've stayed at the Benson Hotel. It was top end for our budget, but Portland hotels don't come too cheap most times. We love to hang out in the Southwest downtown core of Portland, and found this hotel allowed for us to walk almost everywhere. Pine State Biscuits for a breakfast meal did require us to take the car out once. Parking was a bit expensive considering the car didn't move but once. There are cheaper alternatives close by if you are not using the car during the trip. We didn't eat at the hotel, but that's not surprising the overwhelming food options that Portland offers. We did enjoy a complimentary wine tasting that occurred on Saturday night, and the lounge did offer some music and a very enjoyable atmosphere. I would stay here again, and do recommend The Benson Hotel.

Beautiful restored lobby and good location

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Location and historic architecture
Cons: Earlier concierge service. Often not there until 9 am
Location: Near pioneer courthouse square, pioneer place, nice restaurants and other good hotels
Great beds, minor nuisance of light burned out in bath and broken bath shelf. Staff responded immediately.
